Three months ago four of my five plants turned hermaphrodite. So I built a new grow room and tried again with three more clones. It looks to me like two of them have sprouted male flowers (nanners). What am I doing wrong?
One possible issue is that these clones were outside for a couple of months and started to flower because it was too early. They stayed outside with a day length around 12-1/2 hours until I finished the grow room and locked them up on a 12/12 timer.
3 x 3 x 8 foot grow room.
External light is well contained.
600 watt LED full spectrum light.
Temperature regulated to about 75-78 degrees F during the day, 60 degrees at night.
Two plants in 3 gallon plastic pots, one in 5 gallon grow bag.
Dirt with “Elite” nutes.
Are these little bananas male? Sorry for the purple, I don’t have easy access to natural light.
Not sure they are males try plucking them out and see if more grow ? At least that’s what I would do

Guys any thoughts about this ?
Yes , just pluck them as needed to finish grow…
You might end up with a couple of seeds…
@ProctorPot how long has It been since you went to 12/12 light schedule …?

Any thought to why they would hermi ? @peachfuzz
He did say they where clones so I guess if he clones a hermi plant he would have a hermi plant lol
That’s a good point as well @Matthew420 nice to see you around bro

I’ve heard in the past there can be cannabis pollen in the air that travels pretty far. Seeing as you’re in CA, maybe it’s a possibility?
My other thought (aside from what @Countryboyjvd1971 suggested about the clones), is there any chance of light leaks? Anything at all? A lit up display panel on a humidifier for example?

It’s been on 12/12 for a couple of weeks now. The clones were not taken from a hermi, they were taken from the one plant that didn’t herm.
There are no light leaks. The new grow room is in a crawl space under the house. Not only is it totally enclosed, it’s even dark outside of it. People say even a tiny indicator light is a hazard, but a full moon is really bright and doesn’t mess them up. I’m skeptical that tiny lights matter. But no matter, it’s dark anyway.
By the way, I finished all the herm plants outside. It was often windy and the pollen permeated them pretty well. The buds are full of seeds and have to be cleaned, but they’re still potent. The buds were covered in milky trichomes. People say the plants may as well be destroyed, but I got five ounces of bud that is about half strength. In other words, you might need two hits instead of one. It makes great edibles.
And, I have plenty of seed. I sprouted six out of ten and will bring them to flower just to see if they are feminized or not. I have read discussions about this. Inquiring minds want to know.
The reason I was asking about how long they’ve been in flower is to determine whether you’re going to have viable seeds at the end or if they’re going to be immature and that really depends on when they decided to pollinate themselves … I usually only run into plants wanting to hermi out on me after being in flower for 13 to 14 weeks anything longer than that usually buy 2 more weeks 16 to 17 and no matter what the plant will eventually Hermie… that’s something that’s just bread into the plant because it wants to make sure it lives again …I don’t care what plant it is , if it can run its full life cycle in flower it will tend to throw out hermi traits to try and reproduce even if it’s a hardcore female … that is always a possibility and usually more than likely will occur… a lot of Growers like to pull their plants so early that this opportunity is never given … other than that I would suggest a pinhole light leak being the cause… I’ve never seen plants Hermie due to stress from over nutrients or under nutrients or over-watering or under watering … whenever there’s been a Hermie issue it was either because the plant went into flower too long or there was a pinhole light leak somewhere in the room… and yes the moon does affect how long your plants take to flower , because I can take the same plant and put it outside and it will take 6 months to mature due to lighting effects , how much sun , how much Moonlight and all sorts of other factors… where is if I take a plant and black it out every night completely blacked out my meds will be finished a lot sooner… when you grow indoors you maintain and control everything which allows for a quicker flower time more production and more crops throughout the year…
So back to your original question , if you’ve only been in flower for five or six weeks chances are you might have a high number of seeds , but at least those seeds will be viable … now you need to understand that you need to figure out why they hermied out on you , because like I said before plants typically will Hermi late into flower and that’s just because they naturally do that … if for some reason your plants are herming out early on in flower , there’s a reason for that… either it was a light leak or you picked up polin from somebody else’s grow room or if you live in California more than likely somebody is growing within five miles of you and may have not realized they’re growing a male plant , so if your ventilation system is just drawing air from outside without running through a filter or a HEPA filter there is a high probability that Pollen could have came from somewhere else through the air and into your room… but more often than not I would say the pollen was carried on you , if there’s no light leaks…

Where are you getting your clones? a clone is a sister with same genes as it’s mother if mother is prone to hermi every clone she has also is likely to do so
You have to consider the fact that cloning is a high stress act even if mother is female matter of fact that’s half the reason some strains are harder to clone than others. Also many seed banks list seeds by ease of growing some easy moderate and expert a moderate strain or expert strain doesn’t clone well or respond to stress well. When selecting mother plants I actually cut several clones and if clone shows signs of hermi I flower out the mother knowing her cuttings will basically be too much effort and a gamble every time

You know, my problem may be an overly long flower period. I made these clones from a clone that was given to me from a local dispensary. I was never able to learn what strain the thing is. But I made my clones early on to see if I was able to. This would have been in January. I kept them under lights for a while, but then moved them outside. Because it was early in the year, the plants began to flower. I don’t remember exactly when this happened, but maybe late February or early March. Two weeks ago I decided they were not going to reveg, and I moved them into a grow box with 12/12 to finish the flower properly. Maybe all the dithering around with being outdoors too early and flowering for a long time is the culprit.
I’m not sure I’d mind a few seeds since I like the plant and am not going to be able to keep a mother around forever.
But, as for stray pollen, that won’t make a plant turn herm, will it? I can see getting seeds, but will male pollen in the air turn a plant hermi?
