Hi! New grower here. We are currently growing Sunset sherbert, zkittlez, and gelato.
Started all plants at the same time but all are different sizes. Using fox farm soil, mars hydro 2000 watt dimmable led grow light and a back up full spectrum led specific for vegetative and flowering cycles. We are also using the big bloom and big grow nutrients. Put seedlings in solo cups 6/28 now they are in 3 gallon potters. When should I switch to 12/12 light/dark for flowering stage?
Do they seem small for the time frame? One also looks like it could be having an iron deficit with yellow spotting on the newest leaves.
The really small one got the seed pod stuck to it when it sprouted and when we transplanted from solo cup to the small planter its in we noticed it barley has any roots.
Welcome to the forum @Redhead
Overall they are looking great for 3 weeks. You might back off the light by dimming or moving up so you get a little more stretch between the nodes. 9 out of 10 new growers usually have too little light but yours could use a bit less unless you are trying to keep them really short.
Yellow happens as they grow fast and green (chlorophyll) will catch up.
Are you feeding?
What soil are they in?
Cool. That seems good. What light?
Ocean Forest typically does not need food for about 6 weeks.
But I see no nutrient burn so no biggie.
The yellow when I zoom in on the pic looks like a variegation. A genetic mottling that will go away soon. Nutrient problems mostly start on the bottom unless they are excesses then the top leaves show the issue. But like I said I don’t see any issues.
They seem happy. Is that a 3x3 tent?
I have a 3x4 and with 4 plants I have to switch to flower in the week 4 to 5 time frame.
Sometimes I grow 2 and start flowering between 5-6. It fills the tent either way.
Maybe tag another grower for more eyes. @Newt
Even Better. But you will need more light if you intend to fill it.
Almost every light company overstates the area their light will cover.
A 4x4 tent is 16 square foot and needs about 40 watts per square foot of good LED grow lighting.
It will work.
The colas on the outer edges will probably be smaller and less dense.
For now you are good. I will tag the light guy and when he logs in he can chime in.
I have 435 true watts in my 3x4 which is 36 watts/sqft. I do pretty well.
The TS2000 is a 300 watt light. Your grow space will do better with around 600 - 700 Watts Total
I have 2 TS1000 at 150watts each and an SP-150 at 135 watts.
All Mars Hydro. Decent lights but there are better more efficient ones for sure.
No worries. Remember Hitchhikers guide…Dont Panic! @dbrn32
You may want to set up your exhaust outside the tent to give you more space.
I have a question… and I hope the rest helps.
Do you know what the distance from your highest hanging height from the light, to the rim of the pots?
This is how much space you are going to have to work with.
I’m speaking of space to veg in before it would be detrimental to your capacity to keep going before flipping.
Example:
6ft max light hanging height (72”)
Minus-
12” pots + the 20” to save for light distance.
(this is almost half our space) 32” gone!
We have 40” to veg + flower. 3ft 4” of actual grow real estate.
So indicas I would top once & flip at 20-25” tall in veg.
Sativas… I’d top twice & flip at 12-18”
Hybrids - top once & flip at discretion. Guessing if indica or sativa dominant by leaf structure.
Ok so a second ts2000 to get me up to 600 watts should be good? I’m having a hard time keeping it under 80 degrees with 1 light at 75%. Yes the tent is 4x4x6 pots are 3 gallon. The small skittles plant had some trouble early in germination/seedling stage so that is still in a half gallon pot I’m just about to transplant that one to 3 gallon. The pots are about 12’’. I have them perched on a table in the tent now just so I don’t have to bend over to water. The pants are hybrid indica dominant average 70/30 ish. I can move the fan outside do you think the plants will reach that high?
You don’t want to find out if the plants can reach that high with the fan in there, unless it’s easy to remove.
A second light can only make things better. I am running a Mars Hydro 480w FC4800 (6 bars) in a 4x4x7 now, and will be upgrading to 720w (8 Bars) next grow. As far as heat, I would mount the drivers outside, or on top of the tent. I have mine on the roof with extraction ducting blowing air on it. This keeps it cool & efficient.
Also keep the bottom vents open with extraction on high. This should pull air from the room in. Keep the air in the room as cool as possible. I run an ac 24/7 in flower. It helps keep humidity down at night which is a life saver.
Theyre still room for growth bud, if they were mine id let the veg out to atleast double the size of the biggest plant in the photos then flip. Id also start some lst as well when they get a little bigger to start shaping a bushier plant. Best of luck growmie!
Awesome info thanks guys. Looks like I’ll be doing some duct and lighting work today. This is my first attempt at a grow so I’m a little nervous topping the plant. Any advice on that would be greatly appreciated. I’ll watch some videos today
