I’m wrapping up my first grow (outdoor) and have had such a good time that I purchased a 4x2x6’7" tent and an Advanced Platinum P300 light. I also ordered some new ILGM seeds. My existing grow was Super Silver Haze, and I should have enough of that to last a while. I’d like to scrog other varieties. I’ve got Big Bud, Chocolope, Gold Leaf, and Amnesia Haze en route.
Initially I was thinking about doing a 3 plant scrog in the tent, but given the varieties, I thought it might be best to go with 2 plants. My initial thinking is Chocolope and Gold Leaf, assuming I’ve got enough room (and light) to make that work.
I agree with @Wishingilivedina420state it’s kind of hard to say any of them are bad. What I like in a scrog strain is something with a relatively short 8-9 week flowering time. But only because it typically takes a little longer in veg to to fill the screen. So it offsets overall time to harvest. But that’s just a personal opinion.
Two plants is plenty, and should fill up screen plenty fast enough in a 2x4.
And I have long flowering plants 10-14 weeks and with scrog net and two nets I don’t have to stake the plants , makes lst so much easier spreads the plant out like a dream. IMO there is no downside to scrog with a net.
I think 2 in a tent that should be perfect. I’m doing 4 in a 4x4 tent and it’s quiet crowded. I think 2 would make it easier to manage. As far as strain goes- I think it’s just a matter of personal opinion. But I think the ones with shorter flower times would be best.
Thanks for the replies. I think I’m going to stick to two plants and try to match their estimated flowering times. I’m excited to get started and will be sure to update.
Yea, 2 should be enough, I for sure agree. I have a 48x24x72 tent and have 4 plants in it. They are still in their young veg state, but they are going to get crowded in their I guess. I am a newbie, my first grow, inside or out. So I goofed starting that many. But it isn’t all bad. Its an experiment for me and going to scrog one plant, possibly two. A GL and a WW. I got some photos online here in a new thread, just look me up if you want.
I have 2 OGK’s in one pot, that I am likely going to elevate to avoid the scrog since they are short and bushy type. my first grow not concerned with how much I get, long as its enough for me till I get another grow going. Likely first of the year will go outside as well. Got a mess of bag seed that was sent to me so am going to put them outside come spring. They look good for bag seed. From a shop in Colorado. See what happens.
Needed to correct my tent size. Brain fart.
For two plants in a 4x2 scrog, what is the recommended pot size? I plan to do fabric pots and was considering 3 gallon, but could do 5 gallon instead if that makes more sense. I searched but didn’t find anything terribly conclusive. I’m guessing it’s mostly opinion and personal experience right now. Or has there been a controlled experiment done by anyone?
3 gallon would probably work. You’ll only be asking each plant to fill a 2x2 area, which shouldn’t take as long. You’ll just want to start them in small pot/cup, then go to something like a 1 gallon, then make finial transplant to 3 gallon. If you start in 3 gallon the roots will run wild early and possibly cause issues later in the run.
Going with the 5 gallon wouldn’t hurt anything, but I would still follow the same process.
