Yes, she’s looking much better, but you can see how how much time and growth she lost from the 2 weeks of over watering compared in size to the others. Over watering is the devil.
Wow the growth in your plants is amazing decided on the 135 respec can’t wait to see what it does for my plants and next crop in general will probably order a second on somepoint
I had a thing for Vicky Vallencourt, Mama said she was the devil too.
Yeah that’s a nice little light and bright as hell, I put together one of those for a friend today, I’m getting fast at putting these kit lights together, 5 minutes and done and lit.
The Metal Halide I was using is a great veg light, will see how the HLG 260 bspec compares as I’m used to super fast growth with the MH, but using twice the power.
Very nice hope the increase power consumption pays off. And I can definitely believe you built a light kit together a time or two
Nice veg light ![]()
I’m a big fan of 600watt mh and hps globes in cooltubes use more power but found it’s worth it if you can afford it @Hellraiser
So am I, and they remain my backup lights that I can switch back to in 15 minutes if needed. I’ve done everything that can be done with HPS/MH, time to see what I can do with LEDS.
Hellraiser I’m following along, Like drinking from a firehose! All Good stuff. I have two bubble gum and two AK47s. I didnt get any WW to crack. Anyway Question… Do you think I could fill a 4x4 with just the 4 plants? Have good lights now. Thanks again for all the info, People like you make this site fantastic!!!
Hey has anyone on here tried diatomaceous earth as a top dressing for pest prevention? I know @Hellraiser used mosquito bits early on, but I have a bag of this stuff that my friend gave me:
It’s supposed to be like having millions of sharp knives that will cut into the exoskeleton of small insects. These cuts would dry out the pesky beasts and they will cease to be like John Cleese’s parrot.
Yes Ive used that when I found tiny caterpillars in the soil in pots of chewed on plants. The main thing is dont let it get wet. That will deactivate its pest-killing ability. I think Hellraiser said that Mosquito Bits, when watered, seeps down into the soil and kills larva. So maybe thats killing pests off younger.
Ah. Good point! Did you notice any change in soil PH or nutrient uptake after it was watered into the soil? If not, would you recommend applying in between waterings?
My use of DE was on a basil plant, so I was not checking soil pH. You def need to reapply after watering or rain. ***IF u still have a pest problem. Mine was solved after one application.
Yes I use DE as part of a two prong attack on fungus gnats, mosquito bits to kill the larvae and the DE to cut up the adults walking around on the soil. Never had any pH or other issues from using it. Effectiveness goes down after getting wet, so have to reapply after watering and the top soil drys out a little bit.
Yes, quite easily, top them so they spread out and give you a bunch of tops. Picture 4 plants like these in your 4x4 (only 3 in pic).
Thank you @Hellraiser. Ill change to 7 gallon. I have 6 five gallon pots made up, just need to switch soil. I had bought the 7 gallon bags a while back, when I got em thought well these are way too big. I bought 5 gal … So it worked out.
They’re looking good, not stretching too much at this point so I’d leave the light where it is for now, if you notice any stretching starting, you can always turn the light up a little bit or lower it a few inches. I like to keep lights on 24/0 for the first week or 2 to keep the temps warm and stable during that critical seedling period, after that go to a 18/6 lighting schedule.
Hopefully the LED technology is more forgiving. I’m guessing at some point diodes have to be replaced or does the entire unit just crap out and needs to be replaced ?
If you get a light that uses common parts like Samsung boards and name brand drivers like Mean Well or Inventronics, then things can be replaced fairly easily (big reason I like HLG lights). I already have a spare QB288 rspec board for my 550 rspec if one of the 4 boards blows or goes faulty I can swap it out in 5 minutes, I’m also planning on picking up a spare driver so I should be covered with the possible failures. And if all else fails, I can get the 600 watt HPS back in place in 10 minutes (got 4 of those in the shed). And if those die as well, I got 3 blurples under the bed.
