Does anyone recommend using a red bulb heat lamp used for keeping birds warm instead of a space heater? I have one on hand and in a way would ease my mind a bit instead of having a heater in the tent. Once my seedlings go into veg and lights go on 18/6 I’ll have to figure out a different way to keep temps up if I use the lamp though. What are your thoughts?
I definitely agree with you would not feel comfortable with electric space heater plugged up in my tent. ideal way is to control the temperature in the area you’re pulling your fresh air from. Bird light I’m not sure. they do make a Reptile light that doesn’t put off any light at all (only heat). Good luck just my thoughts
Unfortunately in my area and situation im forced to gain heat from a way other than the intake until the weather gets warmer.
Let me tag in a couple growers that might have experience with the bird light. @merlin44 @MidwestGuy
This is probably much safer than a space heater. May not want to leave it on 24/7, but during the cooler hours at least.
I use ceramic space heaters in all of my tents. But… the first one i ever used stuck on and killed my grow. Now i use thermostatically controlled outlet and plug the heater into this. I set the space heater for the temp i want and same for the tstat controller so evenif the heater stays on the outlet gets turned off. I have 0 problems. Keepingthe temp up at lights off also stops relative humidity from spiking
Heat lamps should be kept a minimum of 36" from combustible materials.
Sorry that I can’t help here. I have no experience with them.
I have everything running off inkbird controllers so it would only turn on as it calls for, same as my space heater. I just plugged it in to see how it works
I use 150 and 200 watt reptile heat lamps with great success. I zip tie them to a ratchet strap and hang them in the corners
@OGIncognito mine is working great so far. Leaving it on full time gets me 76.5- 77 degrees without the fluxuation of the space heater. Very happy now and it seems to hold rh better as well.
I use an oil filled heater in my tent controlled by ink birds. They do not get hot enough to ignite Anything.
I would not feel safe with a heat lamp at all.
Most things I have read do not recommend ceramic heaters or heat lamps
Thanks for the advice everyone. The heat lamp has been working great so far and really ups the humidity to the point I need to exhaust it to keep it close to 70.
Does anyone know if I can leave the red heat bulb on during lights out?
Was just gonna throw this heater out here lol. Looks pretty bad ass. I’ve seen on reviews about power outages and the timer part working or not. Does it holds the settings u have logged in or is it something that resets with a power outage. One I seen says it stored the power and came back to his settings another says he didn’t know because he unplugged it and plugged it back in and it came back with the same settings he had started with. Another I seen says they don’t know about longer term outages if it will cut back on or not. We have questions that need answered lol
Not if it’s a photo period plant u want dark hrs to be dark. If Its an auto u can do whatever u would like to do with the lighting scheduled. Just know that they do need a rest period good luck
Ok thanks for clarifying. If I stick with the heat lamlp I’ll have to let it cool off during dark hours. Ive got another week before they go to 18/6. Do you think 61-62 degrees is to cool for them during dark hours?
It all depends u really don’t want more than a 10 to 15 degree drop between day and nite temps of possible if the temps drop too much from day temps that’s when the rh spike shoots up fast. Lower temps at night bring the rh up and in flower u want the least rh u can get to avoid the buds from molding rotting or anything like. The bulb don’t have to be cooked down as long as it shuts off the temp in the room will drop with the bulb cooling off. Right now I have my room runs 78 to 80 day and 61 to 64 night and night time the rh shoots up to higher 50s when day it stays about 40 to 45 any ways to keep the. Ight time temps up will do wonders for u as the plant will grow a bit better at night and it will help not having wpm or mold issues start up. Once they show their face it’s a pain to rid of for that grow the spores spread and spread fast
Ok I think I will be fine then as it will only be roughly a 12 degree drop. RH should be fine as I’m running a humidifier now to keep it up for the seedlings. Everything is hooked up to Inkbird controlers and my s6 cloudline is programmed to exhaust if RH gets above 71. Once they go into veg I think I can get away with removing the humidifier and let rh drop some.
Also, before they go into flower I’ll be able to draw my intake from upstairs which will eliminate the heat lamp and hopefully rh spikes.
