Happy frog soil-when to start feeding

Hello all,

I am growing my auto’s in happy frog soil. I typically grow photo’s in ocean forest and have never had to feed until they’re flowering. I measured runoff when i watered and i am only getting around 400 to 500 ppm, which seems pretty low for a new bag of soil. I did have to run a few gallons of water through though, because the ph was low out of the bag. Question is when do i need to start feeding? My plants are only on their second week since they sprouted.

Feed as necessary to maintain a runoff PPM of ~1,000.

I usually wait till they’re about two inches across. Very little feeding. You got to be careful when they’re young. PPM should be very low. On the flip you want it between 400-600 I stay around 400. Feeding charts help.

Those are like really small trying to get a runoff. Not trying to be a know it all. That is an extremely large container and you’re going to fill it full of water. Not a good idea.

That’s odd for 2 weeks in Happy Frog and to soon for run off at this stage of growth. If your meters are calibrated I would suggest a slurry test before feeding nutrients :love_you_gesture:

I’m curious because I’m fairly new to the game as well… but judging by the size of those containers, maybe 3 gallon? And the stretch of the seedling, shouldn’t it still be trying to catch humidity and little water around edges while covered? Mine typically stay in a red cup until the leaves start to edge out of the lip of the cup.

@Lrf1417 You should not need to feed nutes with happy frog soil for at least 4 to 5 weeks. It is way too early to water to run off. You have no roots to absorb the water pots will never dry out.
Happy growing :v:

Im not new to the game, these are my first autoflowers though. I have read to plant autoflowers in their final pot, they do not like transplanting.

Based on my question your advice is not very helpful. I have only watered once, before planting the seed. And i always do that to runoff, to make sure ph is good. At 400-500 ppm, these pots will not mae it 4-5 weeks.

Yes very odd for happy frog. I will look into the slurry test. I water to runoff once before planting the seed to balance ph. I’ve been burned to many times with the soil ph being low out of the bag.

Did you actually read my post? The ppm right now is 400-500. I did not say i am currently feeding, i was asking at what point should i start feeding? I water my pots to runoff before initially planting, because ph sometimes needs to be adjusted.

Yes I did my friend. The guy above you said a 1000 on run off. And that’s when I told you when they’re about 2 inches across. I grow auto also. But I transplant, and I use grow bags.

Did you read his post?

I have always read that autos do not do well with transplanting/hst. No issues for you?

Yes i did read that, i respectfully ignored.

This medium being organic will buffer the PH. Run off is used to check the available nutrients and PH the medium around week 2 of veg if the plant is healthy. For young seedlings Temps and RH are critical and should be in a range of 74-85 degrees and RH around 65-75%. Clears domes are used to maintain this environment unless your grow space is capable. They absorb the moisture from the dome and water approximately 2 shot glass of PHd water every 4 days or so :love_you_gesture:

Right on, yea I ALMOST bought autos this go around and realized I’d have to relearn some things. I didn’t realize that about planting them, so thank you, I appreciate that bit of info. :slightly_smiling_face:

I did look at the feed chart for Foxfarm. 400-600 is for all of their additives…
I just fed mine. I can still get to ppm out. But I use advanced nutrients iguana juice grow. 15 mL to 3 gallons. +15 mL B-52. I did not pH down or up. PH was around 6.20. I use Hanna. I’ll get a PPM reading for you. I hope I’m helping and not being a Dingaling.

When the root start coming out the side of the bag that’s when I put them in a bigger container. You can take a cup and cut around it and just stick it around your plant so you don’t really have to water the entire bucket. The grow bags work great. I have seen were some people don’t like him. I have great results. Yes I have read you. Got to be careful with auto’s you don’t wanna mess the roots up. I know people that do but you got to be careful. The way you’re doing it is just fine. I tried those big old fabric pots one time before. I made a big old mess.
I did jump in kinda late last night I’m not gonna lie. I hope I didn’t offend you. If I can help in anyway, just ask I’m trying to stay over here a little bit more. I got a new grill going on. I’m getting ready to post.
