Gummies failed -no potency- where'd I go wrong?

TL;DR: Gummies lost potency during production. Any help here would be appreciated.
I’ve been making gummies with decarbed+infused coconut oil using jello-based recipes for awhile and haven’t had potency problems. Last week I tried the cheat method of melting down gummy worms and adding the oil to that using the same ratios as my past versions, and while they formed nicely and the texture/flavor is good, the results are extremely weak- not just for me, not much good for anyone who’s tried them. The oil was plenty potent when consumed on its own. Is it possible to have cooked off the THC when added to the melted gummy mixture if the mix was too hot, or is there something else I missed?

I use the Ardent FX for decarbing & infusing.
Ingredients used: gummy worms, lemon juice, rice flour, 500mL infused coconut oil, melted & mixed on stovetop, poured into molds, set in fridge, airdried overnight in closed oven (no pilot light, no heat), dusted w/cornstarch, sealed in a lightblocking bag.
Never had a batch fail like this, this was first time melting gummies instead of the jello/etc version. Constructive advice much appreciated.

By no means do I have a clue…
But I might guess that there was an ingredient in the gummies that bonded to or catalyzed the THC in your oil rendering it inert.
Just a wild azz guess.

Temperature of your melted gummy substance prior to adding the infused oil? Sugar gets volcanic hot could have degraded your potency. Ive never done it the cheater method. Usually fast and quality dont go hand in hand.

That would be where the problem happened, the guy I had helping me doing the stirring didn’t check the candy thermometer before adding the oil so that’s almost definitely the culprit. Texture and flavor-wise they came out pretty good, just no kick. Going to give it another go, and make another batch the oldskool jello way and do some comparing. Thanks!

Turns out the gummy mix was way too hot when the oil was added, as far as I can tell. I should have reminded my helper to check the candy thermometer first. :rage: :skull:

Question for ya If you don’t mind? How long are your gummies good for typically and do you have to keep them refrigerated and what mold inhibitor do you use? I made my first batch recently and if not in the fridge they mold which makes me think what do all the edible makers do to make them last forever lol.

Potassium sorbate to make them last longer, I’ve found that mine last quite a while. Btw FYI make sure to dry them room temp for a day or two before moving them around or putting in fridge

I use infused coconut oil and I put the oil in the Jello mix, not the sugar mix that is to hot, and I use a Guar gum so it mixes all the way through.

Issue with my candy thermometer didnt get it hot enough

Put them in the freezer. They are back to normal in minutes. No mold, no melting.

It is possible that the THC was cooked off if the melted gummy mixture was too hot. THC starts to degrade at temperatures around 315°F (157°C), so if the mixture was heated above that temperature, it could have caused a loss of potency

I use a emulsifiers when making my gummies helps the oil blend with the liquid prevents hot spots also I had some that didnt set so I remelted and that worked.

I have never tried the cheat method. But I am guessing the gummy mix was too hot to add oil.

I have great luck but I sent a couple out for the world to try. Excited saw my sister first time in months she mentioned insomnia well guess what I just happen to have something to help. Her message this morning was she doesn’t need to go get any now they were great.

Thanks to all, turned out that yes the mixture was too hot, thermometer wasn’t calibrated correctly…
etc etc etc all boiled down (see what I did there) to “My own stupidity” lol.
Goes to show no matter how long you’ve been at something, there’s always a way to screw up if you slip even a little, eg test the thermometer EVERY TIME, don’t get lazy and figure “well it should be fine cos I calibrated it last time”…ugh.

I use lemon juice, 1 tsp, they lasted in the fridge for 4 months in an air tight container, but I also freeze them and they last over 1 year.
