This will be my 1st pro-mix but 2nd indoor grow (soil). My water is PH 6.2 - 6.6 ?
I mixed in a bag of “perlite” with P/M. I also put a hand full of the clay-balls in the bottom of my 3 gallon pots for drainage purposes (Plastic crappy pots, cant get fabric as of yet.)
I paper towel germ, then to pod, the in to 'bio pot" filled with seedling starter lil bigger then a solo cup. Then to pro mix in 3gallon is it now I should start feeding, looking at 3 nodes or 4-5 real leaves.
I don’t use pro mix as of yet (2 bags on back porch) from what I’ve gathered off here its pretty much void of nutes. I think it has some PH buffering done to it, I’ll tag @fano_man I think he has experience with it. Be gentle he’s had a bad day today, life sucks sometimes.
I appreciate it @pillsbury but that’s one of the few things I dont venture down the rabbit whole for I been stuck on fox farm since I found it there ALOT OF different promixes and I might try em eventually but not as of yet … um who uses promix… @gremmall who uses promix brother
I am using the foxfarm trio, (food ,bloom, tiger) for nutes. I didn’t no the had there own mix… aren’t all pre-mixes pretty much the same? I mean in the sense that they are void of nutes. I’m more concerned with the 5 or 6 basic nutes (copper, beryllium, magnesium…etc) im growing autos and i know the clock is running so i want my medium to be ready and waiting on them. How do I go about provide the basics for my gals?
Naw not the same some are similar but fox farm makes …1 2… atleast 6 can think of they have a 3 part dirt system that’s pretty nifty but if your not aware of what your doing it can be a nightmare
Fox farm light warrior for seedling
Fox farm ocean forest for veg
Fox farm strawberry feilds for flower
Then they have a coco…
Cocoloco
Kokobop
And an all round dirt that I like is called happy frog I’m stuck on this right now and last couple years
And promix…oh my lord they have alot and I dont no a thing about them… in sure some are similar to above listed but not identical
I use promix hp. And I use fox farm trio and grow autos. I start using big bloom when the first set of leaves start to yellow. I forget what they are called. Too many edibles today. But I use 1 tsp big bloom to one half gallon water. Then for the second feeding I start with 1 tsp grow big added. I ph to around 6. I tried at 6.4 - 6.6 but had more success at 6.
I’ve grown around 20 plants like this but I’m no expert. It’s worked for me. I get good results for autos.
Edit. I also use 1.5 tsp of cal mag for every feeding and watering. I am on a feed, water, feed schedule.
About how many times a week do you water and you put cal mag in both feed and water everytime…
I always feed one day, have a dry day, then water day. But I have fabric pots with fans going so they tend to dry out every other day.
And yes I use cal mag in water and feed. My first grow I had trouble with cal mag deficiency. Never had any problems since I added cal mag all the time.
Cool, i really appreciate you taking the time to help. So will the cal mag take care of the basic nutes ? Do you water in your seedlings with cal mag PHed water.
Also if you dare venture, if you don’t feel like it I totally understand…
Pro-MIX & PPMs…
Glad to help if I can. Seedlings only get water. I don’t start cal mag until I start feeding.
So when my seedlings codys start to yellow then I start the fox farm big bloom along with cal mag.
After 2 feedings of big bloom & cal mag then I start adding grow big to the feed.
Once flowering begins I add tiger bloom to the feed.
Like I said I use cal mag from beginning to end in both water and feeding. Might be overkill but it works for me.
TBH I don’t check ppm’s anymore. I did when I first started. So I’m not going to be any help there. Once I kinda got dialed in, I knew what my well water ph was, how the nutes worked so I took shortcuts. But I don’t recommend that until you are comfortable. I’m probably the exception. I would guess that most growers do monitor ppms.
There are a number of Promix products: some soilless and some soil. Which did you get? This is important as it makes a big difference on whether you supplement or not.
I grow in Promix HP which is a soilless mix, meaning supplement from day one. PH for peat is intermediate between hydro and soil with a nominal PH of 6.0.
Cal mag is less necessary in peat compared to coco but high performance lighting can make plants calcium hungry. You should attempt to water daily. When plants are small you cannot water to runoff but media does need to be damp.
The deal with the ppm’s is… I don’t know if I don’t understand how it works… say we want 1000ppm…
Chlorined evap-tap = Ph 7.2 , ppm’s=250
So I add 750ppm nutes , Ph H²O to Ph 6.5
H²O in = Ph 6.5, ppm’s 1000
Run off = should be at 1000 or less
Is that how it works or did I just make up some shit in my head! Not surprised it has been known to happen…lol!
I am not gonna lie starting primitive, not low budget, NO budget. Had to build grow under budget everything you name it I got the problem but I’m fighting every step and I am not going to quit. I didn’t have the money for the meters finally got one…
“LOL”… 3750 ppm’s “flush” ( Couldn’t find a toilet emoji)
@Oldasdirt I’m so glad you said this … how much water are you mixing with your 3 tsp of calmag… I do same thing for same reason… I have a whole line of Emerald harvest in gallon size but I have 2.5 gal of cal mag…
food calmag
(water)[ little bit ]
calmag silica water
Water [little bit]
Food calmag
Most manufacturers say 5ml a gal ,I use 6 to 7ml gal in flower no problem green green
Btw a teaspoon is 5ml
Lol and you dont check any numbers anymore… I only check and use down for silica days…but I dont use a digital I hung that up a while ago I use a drop of reagent its fail safe
I use 3 tsp per half gallon. So it sounds like the same as you. I had lots of cal mag deficiencies early on so now cal mag is just part of my routine.
I use that and fox farm trio. That’s it.
When I use tiger bloom it drops my ph too low so then I use ph up.
Wow! That’s ALOT that’s 6 times max suggested lvls that’s 6 tsp a gal that’s 30ml a gal I use
7 ml gal .MAX surprised your not getting a toxicitywhat manufacturers cal mag you use
Okay my next issue was going to be … how come when I use my tigerbloom my ph drops to 5.8 and for giggles I checked ppms 550
So I straightened out my ph 6.5
Ppms went to 250
Should I just concentrate on keeping ph happy and forget the ppms
Damn I shouldn’t try to do this when I eat edibles. Sorry for the confusion.
No I’m not using that much.
I’m using 5 ml per gallon. I think that was the max recommendation.
I know that tiger bloom brings the ph down. Might even say that on the bottle. Once I start tiger bloom I have to add ph up. I try to get it between 5.9 and 6.1. Seems to be the sweet spot for me.
6.5 in soil because above that and below that iron and contrary molybdenum stem in available above and below that line 5.9 is more iron happiness while 6.6 6.7 is molybdenum. So 6.5 hits all the Mark’s but it’s not a bad thing to water feed with a 6.1 and then a 6.6 that’s what I do… I’m assuming you dont use silica you’d have a whole other problem silica will shoot any mix up over 7.5 to 8 range… that can cause issues… but can I ask you a question @Brandini how are you managing to change ph and get less ppms are you cutting your mix eith water to raise ph? I gotta be …seems like your adding a gallon of water to your tiger bloom mix to be getting half the ppms …if you ph something your ppms should be going up because your adding more solution to your mix… you should have you tiger bloom at 550 and ph of 5.8 add a few DROPS of ph up 1 or 2 at a time and check its should bring your ph up rather quickly in a 550 ppm solution… the fewer ppms in a mix the easier it is to influence the mixtures ph if you have high ppms there more solids holding the ph steady and the up or down need to react with more stuff… dont adjust ph with more water you will be starving your girls… and @Oldasdirt I’m guilty of righting funky numbers alot lol I get stoned and ramble on here daily … u can tell I am right now
