Growing Durban Poison

That’s the simplicity of DWC. I use GH Flora trio. With my water (150PPM @7-7.5) my nutes hit pH perfectly every time. They do slowly drift to 6.0 to 6.3 during the week, but this is still acceptable. So for the first 2 yrs of growing I rarely if at all pH’d my solutions. It was only when I started adding anything else (additives) that my pH got all out of whack. I have found you do not need any of these additives to get good yields. Only use GH Flora and Armor Sl. That’s it.

That air pump would be goo if you were running 12 ports, but may be too big if you plan on running 8 ports max. I think there is one half that size that may be more appropriate.

Isn’t that high for ph?

So your water is 7-7.5 and after nutes drops to 5.5 or so then drifts up? I have FF Trio already is it ok to use? My filtered water is around 6.7 after adding nutes. I already have a lot of rockwool cubes. why do you not recommend rockwool?

With my water it drops to pH 5.8 (perfect for hydro). Sorry…didn’t put that in.

You can use the rockwool, I just find it holds way too much water and causes minor infections of the plants and damping off of seedlings unless you keep them dry.

With the proper air stone you only need (1) air line per 5-7 gal bucket/tote. With larger buckets you may need more per tote.

Is it this trio. This was formulated for soil. I don’t know if it will work for hydro. That’s why the PH hits 6.5. There is a FF trio specifically formulated for Hydro, but is have not used it

Yes that is the Trio. It has schedule for soil and for Hydro. I saw one other thread where someone used it for DWC. On soil it recommends Sledgehammer flush every month. For hydro it says flush every 2 weeks. I can keep it for my soil and look into the GH nutes. Do you have a GH link?

Just looked and they have a trio for hydro but it is a different formula. Just recognize it is not the same formula for the same name line for hydro. Can you take pictures of the ingredients on the bottles? I can let you know.

I will take pics later when I can. Thanks I am still going to check out the GH

Just looked and I have soil version. The only difference I think is the Grow Big. Mine is 6-4-4 and the hydro version 3-2-6. The other 2 have the same #'s

All this info is useful to me as well. Plan on giving DWC a shot.

You could probably make it work (pictures), but just realize the pH will have to be adjusted to 5.8 every time you mix up a new batch.

@Drillbit It is honestly WAY easier than soil with the right setup.

My tap water tests at 5.8 and 0ppm. I would have to ph up after nutes I’m assuming?

Water has no buffering capacity so it should hit 5.8 with GH Flora.

Awesome! I think my water may be better suited (from the tap) with a hydro setup. I go through so much ph up when mixing nutes its ridiculous! Lol. Been using that liquid lime by nectar for the gods lately though. Is lime feasible in a hydro setup or should I go back to the chemical ph up for this?

@Drillbit Nice icon…appropriate for today…May the 4th be with you!

Only reason it would take so much up is if it’s a weak base. Ploy by nutes cos to make you buy stuff. Most Up contains Kbicarb or KOH and should only take 5-10 mls / 5gal MAX. Otherwise it’s weak.

So I can just ph the water after nutes to 5.5 and probably not have to do anything for a week then change the bottom tub with new ph’d nute water then continue till done? Sounds as easy as the Kind soil is going.

I’m sure if I were using chemical nutes with just the lime ph up, it wouldn’t use as much. This nectar of the gods nutrients I’m using currently on my organic soil grows, has like 7 different ingredients to mix in. Lol.

5.8 is the proper pH for hydro. 5.5 is still in range, but will start locking out nutes. Some people even like running at 6.0:
