Growdocs first journal, yall asked for it…

Yep, great for dis-arming people, and de-livering them to their maker!

Up here, everything has to be trigger-locked and in a safe in a locked room. I remember the good ol’ days when the shotgun was kept under the bed and shells in the headboard. But once kidlets came along, had to go more legal.

At age 10 my son showed me just how ineffective gun safety can be if everyone is not on board.
I had all my shotguns broken down with firing pins and barrel retaining nuts in the very secure safe. Old heavy spin lock with 3 numbers. My wife and I knew this by heart but as a backup my wife had the combo on a PDA she used for work.
Apparently one day when wife and son are out he asked to play on her PDF. It does solitaire and such.

Nope he memorized the combo after finding a file called passwords.
Then he opened the safe and takes the hinges off the cage I stored the barrels and stocks. out of 3 sets of random pins and nuts he put the 870 together and blew a hole in the basement bedroom wall, basement ceiling, living room floor and living room ceiling.
One shot and what could have happened is he could have been looking down the barrel when it went off.

Now the very and only funny thing about this is I did not notice it until I saw the hole in the basement bedroom wall and started following the shot along its path. The little bugger had done a pretty good job of drywalling the holes in the ceiling and painting it. He had driven some dowels up from the basement and cut them off flush and fluffed up the carpet.

Somebody had been watching Dad fix shit for a long time and it was pretty good. All this in the 1.5 hours between drop off from school and when we get home.

Bought the 30 gun fortress safe shortly after that.

I just taught my children gun safety as children. Hunting. Fishing. Daughter did 10 Airforce and son just left Top Gun as maintenance chief for this years aggressor squadron. Strong upbringing produces strong children.

Dad did the same.
I was 15, alone, and playing with the 45.
Not sure why. First time (and last time).
I was de-cocking the hammer and it slipped.
Explaining the hole in the living room floor would have been impossible.
The dent and impression on the shell made by the firing pin, was enough to convince me never play with the 45 again.
