Grow N' Tell: Mama Mia and GSC Auto

Hello again, Day 47 live from Tentlandia.
The plant usually dictates the schedule but sometimes space has a say as well. I’m not hitting 8 weeks veg, it will more likely be 7 weeks which means my flip is happening in two days. Mama Mia is sucking down water at a gallon every other day. That’s up from the very beginning of about 4 days between feedings.

I still hate Girl Scout Cookies…I mean, I don’t hate Girl Scout Cookies I love them, but you can’t take a thin mint, mate it with a ruderalis and expect a miracle.

Lastly I wish I had made space to clone because I think those three would have taken off. Maybe next year.

Back again, thank you all for visiting. I did start out posting more aggressively so forgive me for not keeping up every day but life happens.

Anyways today is Day 49, I did flip to 12/12 today with very little fanfare. I would like to have gradually transitioned from 18/6 to 12/12 over the course of a week but cutting a week to fit growth space didn’t permit time. Mama Mia (right) is the focus of this grow and GSC-a (left) was originally going to go into a separate tent but that idea was trimmed.

Here is GSC-auto…still has 4-5 weeks left. It flipped to flower a couple weeks ago, so I gave it a little room to stretch.

Perspective counts…looking great when looking back to Day39

Hello again and welcome to Day 2 of flower Day 51 overall. This is my first update from my phone so I hope the photos upload correctly!

Waiting for a plot twist to arrive in the mail this week so keep your eyes open for that

Today on Day 52 in Tentlandia: Molasses

Hello again everyone and thank you for visiting. I wanted to type about mixing my nutrients and a little carbohydrate I mentioned back on Day 18. I’m about to try molasses for the first time so if my plants keel over and die there will be no mystery. But the reality is a lot of people use it so how terrible an it be. I’m still in my experimental stage in learning to grow so if this crashes, it will suck, but I will survive. I’ve read that some people use sugar cane, honey, or corn syrup but I’ll be using unsulphured molasses.

I try to make mixing as easy as possible so rather than have to do a lot of shaking, I like to turn the molasses into a solution that will mix better with my gallon jug. I heat a little bit of water or just use clean water running through a keurig, water from the tap may be hot enough. You don’t need much at all as you’ll see below, just enough in a glass so your spoon can be submerged for stirring. DO NOT USE BOILING WATER. I just thought I should scream that. By the way, you can use this same trick when making powdered iced tea or lemonade…turn the powder into a solution with a little hot water, then mix it with the bulk of cold. No sugary chunks and 100% less stirring.

Anyway back to Molasses…which, by the way, smells horrible.
I have heard/read people using anywhere from 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons per gallon, I’ll be using a sloppy teaspoon. I’ll be adding this just once per week. Not every feeding.

Get your water temped…

Take however much you use…

Mix it in…

Compare it to one you didn’t do yet.

Like I mentioned earlier I use Dyna-Gro Nutrients. I like it simple and this stuff seems to go a long way for what I need.
I take 1 gallon of my RO water @20ppms I forget the pH, but it’s a 6.8-ish by memory. I add between 1ml-2ml of Cal-Mag to make up for having only 20ppms…but I add it AFTER the silica.
I add my silica first (because it tells me to) which is Protekt in this case, and shake my mix.
I then add the rest as needed: Bloom, Mag-Pro, Cal-Mag and now Molasses solution.
I shake that, pH it and adjust from there. My Week one flower feeding at about 90% came in at 4.9 pH. Yeah.
I added about 3ml of pH UP to my gallon and that brought it to 6.1.
Whatever you do, pH your water last.

This is my feeding schedule, I use the “Drain to Waste” measurements.
Cal-Mag and Molasses are add-ons. But I feed at about 80%-90% so I have room

Who knows. I don’t expect any problems. They looked fine 3 hours after feeding, the morning will tell more.

And finally a green pic…

Nice update.

I use Dyna grow in soil. I have not yet tried K-L-N, mag-pro, or Pro-tekt. I have had good results with using just the Foliage-Pro for veg and Bloom for flowering. I also use molasses but I ferment it first with effective micro-organisms EM-1. Your grow looks great BTW!

I was reading something on fermenting sounds like a lot of prep work that would probably be very rewarding. How long do you ferment for? @hangthebanksters

I give it about a week. Its the microorganisms in the EM-1 that consume the sugars in the unsulphered molasses and makes the solution go live. The plants can uptake beneficial microorganisms through foliar feeding or root uptake.

Day 54 Day 5 Flower…
Day two Ag

I heard about this and I wanted to see if this would work. It got a late start of 4 days after 12/12 switch but that shouldn’t matter. I have one branch that bends away so, it will be the chosen one. I shut off all the pole fan and the exhaust then I just hit my target with a spot on spritz. Very gently. I don’t want second hand sprays getting anywhere near what I intend to keep.

Remove plate
Fans back on
Day continues.

Wow, four days flies. Today is Day 58 over all and Day 9 of flower.
GSC-A got a Week 3 flower Dyna Gro…it might be further along than that.
MM is just starting her Week 2 flower feed.

I have not figured out how to control stretch. If I had more space, or only one plant, I would spread them out more. Still using the Ag, we’ll see how that goes. Supposed to take a few more weeks, but I think I see something happening.

I still take my pictures even though I don’t have time to post!
Day 55
I love seeing the leaves reach for the sky. That is a sign of a happy plant.

Day 57
GSC-A teaser shots…

Day 57 MM shots. Day 7 of flower at the time I think. Little baby buds…

Day 57…I love it when they reach for the light. No droops

And finally, today…Day 58 with a focus on Mama Mia. I had fed them yesterday.

See you soon, wish you were here.

Holy mackerel, it’s been a week since I last gave an update from Tentlandia! Life happens, but thank you for visiting.
Today is Day65 overall, but Day 16 of flower for Mama Mia and Day 30 for Girl Scout Cookie auto.

Mama Mia is just starting week 3 but she has developed a lot in just 7 days.

Day 60

Day 65 I really have to figure out how to fight stretch during flowering, you can see how low the first level SCROG is…

Last but not least, here are some glamour shots of Girl Scout Cookie from D63. Bumped into her with my knuckle and I couldn’t stop smelling my hand. Probably has about 2 - 3 weeks before I flush through the end. She’s not going to be a big producer. Maybe 70 grams dry is my guess.

Had some free time, so it’s two days in a row for updates, Woohoo!
Yes, I’m sure you’re thrilled.
Anyway, it’s Day66 and here are just a handful of Mama Mia’s baby bumps.
I compared this to my past grows and the buds seem a little bigger this time around. Everything else has been right on par with past grows, but the only difference here so far is Molasses…and I’ve kept the lights a little closer to the top of the plants.

Leaves are indicating the plants are getting just a little too much water. I’d back off a bit. You want those leaves to not reach for the sky like that. Here’s one that’s has just the right amount.

Really beautiful girls you got there btw!

That girl looks great!

Interesting note on the leaves. I’ve always gone for the “reach for the sky” look (doesn’t mean I’m right), but your fan leaves look great reaching out like that. I think my LEDs make the girls reach up instead of out. How often are you feeding your girl?

Feeding nectar for the gods every 3 days.

I may be wrong about the water. I’ve just noticed from growing outdoors for years that my leaves tend to reach like that right after watering. But I was watering every day back then. Now I water every 3 days.

Just a quick recap
Girl Scout Cookie Auto is in week 6 of flower

GSC Day 68

MM Day 68

Everyone Day 70 Although MM takes up 75% of the pic. GSC-a is on the left.

Hello everyone. It’s Day 27 of flower for MM, Day 41 of flower for GSC-a and Day 76 overall here.

GSC-A got a final week 6 flower feeding at about 90%…I’m winding it down. GSC has one…maybe two… more feedings before I flush then go to water only until it’s ready. This will probably be cut down in 14 days. Then cured enough that I’ll probably be smoking it end of November!

MM got a final week 4 flower feeding at 100% and by comparison to my last grow, is easily 50% larger for the same Day 27 comparison.

This Grow

Last Grow Pineapple Chunk

Very happy

Three things done differently:

  • Cal Mag added every feeding from the beginning on top of the normal regimen because I use RO water.
  • Molasses used for the first time ever. Added once a week during bloom
  • Light height has been kept much closer to canopy.

Lastly today, I need to practice scrogging. I was able to spread this plant out early but it is clearly very far above the mesh. I can make much better use of my light if I can level everything out. No biggie this time. I’ll work it out next time when I have just one plant in the tent.

Day 82 over-all. MM Day33 flower, GSC Day 47 flower.

GSC trichomes are just getting a little amber. Still some clear and enough cloudy to flush. I gave GSC her last nutrient feeding with a large flush two days ago. Two days from today I’ll give a large flush and they way she holds water that might be it. I’ll just barely be cured enough for Turkey day.

Some pictures of Girl Scout Cookies

Being scrunched up against Mama Mia takes away from her…

.
Roughly 3 weeks after that, Mama Mia will come down
