Grow Journal: ILGM Blue Dream (fem) and a bag seed!

As the others stated, they are drowning. I don’t give my plants 1/2 gallon until they start flowering. But damn, with that camera you could post pictures of gravel and I’ll stare at it in awe.

I concur with the others. Slow your roll with the water and the pictures :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:. Can’t wait to see the future ones :v:

Some journal updates here. Right off the bat I want to share the good news that my unknown bag seed has had its DNA test returned and it is female! The plants have picked up a bit of speed after the overwatering was addressed.

The unknown plant is growing much bushier and low to the surface than the ILGM Blue Dream who is sprouting more and more heads.

I also began LST with progress photos below:

They are a little over 5 weeks old, I’m not sure how old that makes them in veg years but I’m going to keep trucking with the LST and 18/6 cycle. Looking to install scrog net in 2 weeks. Thanks for your help guys!

Some more picture updates! Steady LSTing and watering 3/4 gallon every 5 or 6 days. I just started using FF Trio nutes at 50% dilution. The unknown strain continues to grow a darker green and lower to the soil than the Blue Dream. The Blue Dream keeps sprouting bud sights like wild fire, I am doing what I can with the LST to keep it level with the shrubbier unknown plant.

I’ve been trimming off the occasional fan leaf to expose more of the lower nodes to the light, should I be removing the new growth at the base of the main stem?

still looking for some advice on pruning-- should I be taking off some of the smaller undergrowth at this point? (pic above for reference) . Thanks!

I also dialed back the intensity on my HLG 300 light (now ~65%) and raised it another few inches in an effort to stretch the plants a little bit-- they are both growing healthy but short! Possibly due to LST but even so, neither plant has grown more than a few inches skyward with the shorter of the two barely breaching the walls of the cloth pot. Should I put off installing the scrog net until I see some more height?

What’s the height at on the light? At that stage I’m typically at about 32” above the plants and have it turned down to about 90-100 watts.

It was at about 26 inches, I just raised it to 30" from canopy. Not sure how to measure the wattage

The easy way is to use a Kill A Watt Meter.

well hot dog. I’ll have it by 9pm tomorrow. Amazon is a modern marvel.

Yep, as keystone stated. A kill-a-watt meter. If you have a Home Depot close they should have it in the lighting section. That’s where I got mine

I put mine in the screen at 10".

Roger that, so I for sure will try to get them a bit taller before considering scrog. Are you bending them under the net at all?

Once the tops grow through the net, you wait until they are long enough to make it to the next square. You just keep moving the tops to a new open square once they’re tall enough to reach. This will spread out the plant and give you an even canopy. Once about 60% of the open squares are used up, I flip to flower.

Yeah; before the plant hardens off you move tops to outer cells. I try to FIM my plant for 4 tops to send to the diagonal corners. Once the plant starts to harden, I start to tie down from the top.

I like to fill to about 80% before flipping but that’s personal preference. If a lot of stretch another screen can be added above the previous one.

I then manage for airflow; strip the plant material from below the canopy and remove fans for airflow.

Many people use defoliation of the understory to manage humidity.

This hearkens back to one of my earlier questions: at this point, should I be defoliating some of the real small new growth at the bottom of the stalk? (pics above for reference)

I’d leave the lower growth for now, if it was me. They’re fan leaves and not fiber growth. I’m not certain about the biology processes, but there’s a good chance the resources have already been allocated to build those leaves. I doubt any of us can say with certainty.

I haven’t done a scrog so, I would be of no help but, it seems like you are in good hands. Sorry for the late response. I was somewhere I couldn’t respond earlier. :v:

The others pretty much covered it. The new shoots you’re talking about…some of them may reach the screen if you’re keeping up on tucking and exposing them to good light. Others might not. You’ll get a better feel for this with experience, which look like they’ll make it and should be left and which are ‘suckers’ and can be removed without hurting anything. I hope that helps. Thanks for the tag! :v:
