Grow 4: Cherry Ice Cream!

And canopy is fubar…don’t think I’ll bend the three or so tops that are left…they are on the perimeter of the canopy so I’ll let them roll as is. And my super cropping needs practice…didn’t turn out like I had hoped. But you learn from doing…

Thanks guys! Canopy really got away from me…need more practice. lol

What you think about the amount of defol I did over the weekend? I think I should’ve done a little more. Still very jungle-ish in there. One thing I did learn is not to worry about cutting off a main branch that’s lagging behind (bottoms)…because there will be many many other bud sites popping up to take their place.

:v:

I’m in agreement with you. I believe I would have done a little more defoliating but danged if they don’t look good.
I really like Cherry Pie. I have one in the jars. Awesome strain.

Good to hear on the strain…seems like something that is right up my alley. We will see soon enough!

I do take a few leaves and move things around almost every morning, but a major defol is something that is new to me…still learning for sure. Should I finish the job now or wait a bit? They damn sure don’t care about a little haircut here and there…they are strong growers for sure

What day of flower are they at?

A lot of growers do a heavier defoliation at around day #21 and again around day 42 after the flip. Continuing now should be no problem. I was hesitant to go big on it too. Check out a bunch of pictures others have posted. They can take it and love it.

79 above ground and 23 since flip

23 is good. I’d view some of the others pics and go for it if it were me.
You will be amazed how fast they will fill back in.
Then just remove strategic leaves sparingly if you see one that blocks light from a bud site.

Yeah I’d pinch off some more of those big fan leaves.

That’s what a lot of my day consists of…then I get in there to do it and still question myself. :joy:

Roger that…what about the larger fans up towards the top of the main branches? Looking at today’s group shot there really is a lot of large fans in there. They will be taken care of tomorrow morning.

Yeah Mad.
That is exactly where I’d start. Those are the main ones that are blocking light penetration to the lower buds.
On my two grows I cleaned up (pretty much) the top canopy. I preserved the middle canopy. And completely opened up the lower.
It worked well for me.

Thanks Mo…I’ll get to work on it in the morning before lights out and snap a few pics afterwards. Appreciate the help…I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for several great guys here giving me a little guidance.

Yep, I always start at the top with those big light blockers. One leaf can block/absorb 85% of the light so after a couple leaves, there’s nothing left. Basically on day 21, all big fan leaves are fair game for removal.

You are welcome. I’m glad to offer my two cents worth. But bear in mind that I am only on my third grow. Verify my thoughts through a more experienced brother or sister on here.

Well…the only 420 sale I caved on was 10+10 Blue Dream Fem seeds from ILGM. Not getting a scorpion this go around…decided to ride the HID train for another year maybe. Getting good results so far, so not gonna change.
