@W.B.elpaso I understand why you used tinted shade cloth, your weather can be, how can I say it “hell”. If I can “assume” you might have some boarder issues. Even here in Tn. I left myself the option to put in a small window unit. I’m going to use a ground cover poly for the roof and maybe some screen for the top panels(not tinted).
I like the size I wish I had the room.
Ya, i just found the woven poly not sure thats what they call it but it is suppose to be super strong for the wind. I had already bought my plastic so im committed. I left one wall with shade for extra ventalation but im in northern az at 5000 ft. So it doesnt get that hot. Maybe 2 weeks a year over 100 degrees. Most of the time its in the 80s to 90s. No a.c. needed just a fan.
Its 20x12. I wish i had gone with 20 x 16 but lumber prices were out of control when i built it the extra 4 feet would have cost me 500 bucks. Toooo much for a few sticks of wood.
I gotcha, I thought you were in El Paso, hence the heat and boarder comment. the woven poly is thicker and woven like fabric. The ground cover I’m gonna try is like fiberglass fabric. It was cheap like $30 for a 100x50 sheet. Its made for putting over raised beds to keep the bugs and critters out, but let some water and light in. Same stuff as the weave only not as strong. Worst case I have to replace it in a coouple of years.
Even with our sun the shade is a mistake. Not totaly but you need that direct sun. They grow fine with the shade but you get robbed of the crystals and potency. You would never even know it by looking at the plants. But you sure can tell in the finished product. Dont make the same mistake i did.
I do know the feeling, mine is 12x12 only because the cost of deck board is crazy. One way I kept the cost down was buying lumber that is bent, warped or split. I can get it for .25 on the dollar at Lowes, its call kull lumber. I just look at the longer pieces and cut it to size. Its good to get to know the dept. mang.
Haha. Elpaso is just a nickname. Its a reference to marty robbins gunfighter ballads. Its a song
I think I am going to go with alu. screen for the sides, I’ll still get direct light in the morning and afternoon but the cloth will keep the extreme heat down in the 10-2 hours. screen will also give me some airflow
I try to get as much recycle lumber as i can. Its harder to find these days because everybodys doing it now. Seems like anyway.
yep you gotta be quick. Thats how I got my fence board it was being thrown out, one mans trash.
Right. I just scored some nice clean pallets. Im gonna make my girl some patio furniture with them.
There is a code on pallets some are treated and some are not. be careful when you cut.
I will definitly mask up for the cutting and sanding. Thanks for the heafs up. I gotta get that plastic up before the winds start. It gets real windy at my place.
@W.B.elpaso Glad to hear your kicking the big C, Mrs. Cat had thyroid C and had to have surgery last year, got into her vocal cords and caused nerve damage. Twice the damage is she is a elementary teacher sub. Now she sounds like froggy from the little rascals. Lost my father and Grandmother to the C. I feel your pain. If you want to do some trading find a way to text me. Mike
I had stage 4 hesd and neck cancer. Lots of chemo and Radiation surgery the whole drill. 4 years later i won. Thank the lord and weed. Its been a long journey. Im so happy they legelized for cultavation as well as use here in az. Its been a bucket list kind of deal for me to be able to grow some plants. Im the happiest man alive for all that.
Tell her shes not alone with the voice. They did a number on mine too. I can talk but its not the same. I cant yell anymore. Sounds like a different person. My big one is my beard. It doesnt grow on the left side of my face anymore. So no more beard.
Sorry to hear about the beard, High altitude and beards go hand in hand. No joke this is what I look like.
Cut my ridge board, 2 rafters, and header for the door yesterday. Now something I have grown to hate(and hate is such a strong word)is going to Lowes for lumber. I kept bouncing back and forth between a hoop roof and rafters. I think I’m going with the rafters and stretch my ground cloth and later upgrade to clear corrugated panels.
I’ll post some pics when I get the roof up.
@Cat1 i looked into corragated panels. They are nice. It was just to much for me this year. I saw the woven clear plastic to late as well. So i got 6ml clear. Hope it stays on. Hope that does good for you.
I’m going to use poly ground cover, it was about the same as 6mil and the same color. nice thing is I had a Secret Santa give me a $75 GC to a garden site. Im going to put it up for three reasons the biggest is to keep inquiring drones from looking in. #2 is inquiring neighbors. #3 quite, when the wind blows it won’t sound like a jet taking off and I can put up corrugated panels a little at a time. I have screen channel that I got from another job that is very clean and gives me the option to take it loose and tighten it. works just like screen with spline. Im going to use alumin. screen for the windows above the glass. Hopefully that will give me ventilation and keep the heat down.
