Greenhouse build on the cheap

Went to bed, woke up and prices went crazy. I just went to Lowes and bought 8 studs and aluminum screen and spline, over $120. $8.05 for a stud. WTF. I got my ridge up and a couple of studs, I’ll post some pics soon.

Spent Sunday cutting, measuring and nailing, got 3/4 of the rafters up, its starting to look like a greenhouse. I’ll cut the rafter tail to size when I get the rest of them up.

@Deepsix Thanks I almost stroked out when I went to Lowes and bought 8-2x4s and some aluminum screen $122+. Screen is for above the windows and 2x4s for the rafters. $8.05 a board, looks like the money is in growing trees :sunglasses: anyway Mrs. Cat said I would just have to stroke out because we couldn’t afford to go the hospital after the Lowes trip, but she did say she would have them write “At least it was starting to look like a greenhouse” on my tombstone. :+1:

@W.B.elpaso @Cat1 Man you guys have some cool greenhouses!! I don’t have that much space unless I take up whats left of my backyard or fill in the pool ( ala Cheech & Chong) but I may build a smaller version * If the damn Caterpillars invade again!! I cant take another year of them if they come back… Looks like some tasty buds will grow there! Let us see more as you guys progress!!

@AL_GREEN thanks man this year I wanted to do some veggies and med. I have a DWC to start my crop and the girls will go in the greenhouse the plants that the caterpillars like will go in also. I’m trying to do this on the super cheap, so far I’ve got less than $300 in it, but it seams like there is a roadblock at every turn. Next step is to hit up the new construction sites and see if I can dumpster dive their scrap pile. Closer than you might think, now just make it pretty. Idea is to make it to were if I sell it can be used as a greenhouse or a covered deck. :sunglasses: :+1:

@W.B.elpaso One of my girls from my last crop was so over the top I didn’t have the heart to cut her off at the knees, she’s going to be the first in the new GH at the same time she screamed to be cloned so 2 weeks ago I amputated about 6" of a bottom branch just to see.

Now I think I’ll mix up some super soil and start her baby a new life. The whole plant is like this nothing but a bushy tree. I’ in the process of training her to look like a X-mas tree.

@Cat1 nice clone. Looks like a stocky one. Prices are probably gonna get worse before it gets better. If it ever does. I have no faith in our system anymore. Might as well have our own little piece of happiness. Our greenhouse. So we can get away without a plane ticket. Its like my own little world in there.

@AL_GREEN what seeds are you running this year? Or your like me and cant decide? Ive changed my mind three times already. There all good. Really doest matter which ones i go with. But ya im running all new strains for me this time. Should be a challenge. Going organic is alot more stuff than i was expecting. But im trying to keep it simple. I know when we do to much is when we mess things up.

I still have some OGKush left from last year, most of my seed came up and grew different than this girl that I got my clone from. I grew them inside under different lights experimenting. This girl grew at a good rate but I never could get her to bud, then all of a sudden she started to veg and got foilage like crazy and big buds. only like the others the buds are kinda loose and no resin. I hope the sun will help finish what I started. I only have her in a 5gl. bucket and she drinks almost a gl. a day. I have some 20gl. totes I picked up during black fri last year. I want to transplant into and give her room to run. She almost looks like a whole different strain. Color is darker and leaves are fatter. Right now shes about 10 months old. I would like to try some skittles fem.

I grew 5 plants in 5 gallon buckets last year. They got up to 6 ft tall. Big ass buds too! But i had to water twice a day when it was hot out. And a bigger pot they would have been bigger as well. This year i got 20 gallon fabric. Were growing monsters this year.

@W.B.elpaso I’m going all natural this year, I am going to try something a little different and put my totes on Lazy Susans so I can spin my plants so they get the best sun all the way around. I’ll cut my drainage holes and I’m going to use the tops of the totes to catch my water. Plans are to catch rainwater and rig a drip system I have some nice 1/2 brass ball valves I picked up on clearance at Lowes so I can adj the flow, no other reason than I’m lazy. I’m going with totes instead of bag because I want my roots to spread out that way the stalk will grow and keep the girls from tipping over. :sunglasses: :+1:

@Cat1. Was thinking about your build today, i went to the dump and this guy next to me was unloading all kinds of really good used lumber. I mean 2x4 and 2x8 and 2x10s! Just a bunch of it. I took what i could use but wow. I told him that if he posted an ad someone would come pick it up for free. He was pretty old with his wife too. But ya, good day to go to the dump. I must of got 200 dollars worth of nice wood i will use. Kinda kicking myself for not grabbing more but hopefully someone else will grab them.

Have you ever grown mj outdoor? Just wondering. You talk about your clones and what not. Ive never really grown inside. My pops did but i was to young to learn that stuff back then. But i remember it😊 good stuff for an 8 year old. Og kush, ive never grown it.

@W.B.elpaso I lived in OKC for a while and Dallas for a few years the soil and climate was real good for growing outdoor, built a couple of grow rooms before grow rooms were cool. No LED just big hot halogens, thermostat control with exhaust fans. but those were for others. I always like to grow outside, I don’t know I guess its something about the hippy in me, and the sun. Last year was the first time I ever grew indoor and I did a DWC hydro system, Im going to keep working on it but preference is still mother nature. Weather got me last year, by the time I got my seed germinated and growing it was a effort to keep them warm. They are all OG Kush, got a good buzz that last a long time, good high. I’m ready to see how this clone does, I got maybe a month head start on my growing season. Monster plants… I have some new home construction going on close I’ll see if they’ll let me dumpster dive.
