Gray, shriveled stem otherwise looks healthy

First time growing. Plant looks healthy, except for base of the main stem.
Overall plant:

Bad stem - looks like gray film on part of it. Wasn’t sure if that was mold or a peeled off layer of the plant itself.

Looking for diagnosis and recommendations. Thanks!

  1. Indoor or outdoor? - size of grow?
    Single plant in Aerogarden
  2. Origin of seeds?
    ILGM
  3. Regular, feminized, or autoflower?
    White Widow CBD Autoflower
  4. Origin of water. PH, EC/TDS of source water?
Well water, ph around 7 I think.
  5. PH and TDS/EC of if mixed solution?
PH around 6 after i modify.
  6. Grow method? Soil, Soil-less, Coco, Hydro, Aquaponics. Please explain.
    Hydro, aerogarden.
  7. Nutrients or fertilizer system used.
    General Hydroponics MaxiGrow + CalMag
  8. What type of lighting are you using? LED, HID (MH, CMH, HPS), or Fluorescents? Please elaborate.
Fluorescent - after market replacement bulbs
  9. What are the temps in your growspace? Day / Night?
    75F/70F
  10. What is the RH = relative humidity in your growspace? Day / Night?
    ~ 45%
  11. AC, Humidifier, De-humidifier?
Open air grow, so consistent with home - forced air heat and central humidifier.
  12. Do you have a Ventilation system? Size? 4", 6"?
    N/A
  13. Co2 Yes / No?
    N/A
  14. How long have you been growing?
    4 weeks
  15. What budget have you set in order to grow successfully?
    Undecided.
  16. If you grow hydro, then please explain your hydro method. DWC, R-DWC, Ebb and Flow, Or; Other? Other?
I think Aerogarden called it aeroponics, but since it is not a mist, but a drip, seems more accurate to call it more of a bato bucket system? I run the drip 15 minutes every hour.
16b. Size and temperature of solution in reservoir?
    73F

I don’t know anything else aside from damping off that looks like that

They know better

Looks like stem rot. Hard to recover…

Best chance clean a razor, scrape lightly until most of the grey area is removed. You will expose the light green underneath. Use peroxide to clean the area, and use a fungicide. Repeat with fungicide every few days…

it might not work, or it might save the plant. Did this with my last run.

Without treatment it will continue to shrivel and the plant will fall over, and inevitably die. Sorry to say. My ILGM Banana Kush was very susceptible to this and it happened with a few of them if I’m remembering right.

Edit
I also use natural honey on the wound before spraying the fungicide.

This is just my experience, look forward to the other responders.

I concur with the above. I would try to support as best as possible, dab some honey on it, wrap it, and hope for the best. Good luck!

If what he has you do works. Buy yourself some Tree wound. I use it when I graft my fruit trees. It will seal the scar and help it heal. Treat the stem like a broken leg and put supports on either side and lightly wrap. I never experienced it and am rooting for you!

Aphids will attack any weak place in a plant, IME.
H2O2 washing mentioned above, I concur.
Aloe vera may help.

I couldn’t find an earlier picture but this is what mine looked like a couple weeks after scraping, cleaning, honey, and fungicide. The others I left untreated died. They looked healthy too…

The OP picture it honestly looks too far gone to save… but it might be worth a shot.

I want to clarify on the last post, the others that died weren’t untreated, they just weren’t scraped like the survivor pictured. They got treated with everything else. The conditions developed under low temps (mid 60’s) and low humidity (30-40%) and low light as they were young when it started.

Hey all - thanks for all the advice. @Low may be right and it may be too far gone, but encouraged that you all were at least able to identify what the problem was. The whole process has been a little discouraging as my first two tries didn’t even germinate (once in the aerogarden itself, once using float method - third time paper towel method worked but put it on a heat pad). So I’ve got a lot of emotional investment in this one.

I treated it and splinted its broken leg (thanks @Dirtydabber for that analogy) with a couple slivers of 1/4 - 1/3 of a circumference of PEX tubing. I put zip ties on, but if it doesn’t die, I’ll cut them off, re-treat, and put them back on with tape.

I feel that. I hate when that happens… I wish you luck with her. Hope it recovers for you.

Me too, I do feel for all my charges. I treat them all poorly, equally…
Still I feel them.
