We have a small flock and love our closed system in which we give them all safe food scraps because we’re all about using everything without waste.
Pot leaf trimmings are in question. I’ve researched online.. no real clear answers. I’m not worried about toxicity, they have an instinctive avoidance to things. I’m curious if it comes out in the eggs (we sell ours to ppl who stop by). At best I’m thinking they’d just ignore the trimmings?
If you have any anecdotal experience, we’d love to hear it! You’ve all been so helpful so thank you.

Mine eat them and it doesn’t show in the eggs. It’s their main source of fresh greens during the winters.

If they will eat them, sure. Animals have an well developed self-preservation instinct. As far as seeing whether the THC shows up in your eggs, here is a suggestion: Get a home test kit for THC presence. Since THC is lipophilic, it will show up in the yolks if at all. Keep in mind that these tests have a threshold (usually 50mcg/dl) so even if it was present, the concentration might be enough to trigger a “+” result. Is this tried-and-true science? Nope! At best a SWAG.

How would that work with a test designed around urine enzymes, and how would it handle THCA, for example? Seems like you’d need an actual yolk assay to know.
Anecdotally, my eggs are sold to people who get regularly/random drug tested at work.

Great question. I wish I had an equally great answer for you. THC is stored in fatty tissue, metabolized in the liver and excreted either by urine or feces. Since THC can be detected in urine (most common and cheapest method) blood, hair and stool I’m inclined to think that it is the metabolite itself and not the testing medium. Regarding your egg buyers; A double metabolism (chicken and then human) would probably reduce it to damn near undetectable levels. But again, this is at best a SWAG and it might be best to err on the side of caution.

Forgot to mention this. I am retired military so I had PLENTY of opportunities to join in Operation Golden Flow…
