Growing outdoor is definitely the cheapest but comes with other problems, bugs, bud rot and thieves.
Must have for growing indoor is a good light. Without that your plant will produce less. Ph meter is also a must. I’d stay away from miracle grow and choose something specific to growing bud. Fan for ventilation. Get all that together and you can piece the rest together as you go.
I went with a cheap set up to start, not knowing any better and ended up not having a great harvest. I invested some money into a tent, lights, nutrients, soil and inline fan vented out the window. I ended up getting a little over four ounces. Not that I sell but around here an oz goes for $200. That investment easily paid for itself. Each grow I invest a little more as I go. I would go with a carbon filter from the get go. Venting out the window could be smelled by anyone walking by.
There is no better satisfaction than smoking your own bud and sharing with friends. Do as much research as you can. You’ll be glad you did.

Like @shindig153 say, it is tough to get a good product without some investment. I’ve been growing a little over a year now and over that time I’ve spent probably $2000 on my grow and grow room - seeds, lights, controls, nutrients, meters, everything. Considering what my wife and I used to spend annually on pot, I’m saving thousands of dollars a year by growing my own product. The payback is quick. Good luck

Here’s some of the things I’ve bought over time:

Agree completely. The return on investment is considerable. I recouped my upfront cost on harvest one.

I think some items you can make yourself like a tent or grow room made from scrap lumber and white paint . Make your own fabric grow bags from burlap or old tee shirts . Unfortunately some things you just have to have to make good buds . Your lighting is the most expensive and I suggest getting the best you can afford . Also concider building your own DYI light . A ph meter is a must have item . I’m on a fixed income and just put a little bit away each month . I think for $500.00 you can grow some nice buds . Save save save , it’s not easy .

This is about the best advice you can get. You can grow cannabis with cfl’s and fluorescent tubes but the yield will be terrible for all of the work you put in. I prefer a payoff that’s worth my time. It can be the difference between 1 or 2 oz per plant to 1/2 to 3/4 pounds per plant.

If you don’t have the minimum equipment, trying to grow will only be a waste of time and frustration.

Maybe start with one plant. You can get by with a few 65 watt fluorescent flood lights (65 actual watts)and reflectors . If you grow in good soil, you probably won’t need any nutrients until flower, say a couple months into the grow. At least get a cheap $25 Chinese PH pen/ TDS pen combo.

Better yet, grow outdoors if you can. Let big bad Mamma Nature do most of the work for you.

My best advice would be to save some money up and get all the stuff you need for a decent indoor grow. I’m about to start my first in a couple weeks. I’m going to end up spending about $300, not including a light.

White shower curtain=old school. I love it!

PVC pipe, large water heater pan, and a white shower curtain. My first little grow space many, many moons ago. Made it for my GF…

All of the advice so far is excellent and I strongly agree with all! I started growing 10 months ago and thought I would start simple and made some purchases without sufficient knowledge and with idea “how wrong could it be? It should work.”.

Economically, I would be far ahead with my grow operation had I not tried to cut corners.
If you really can’t afford a decent light, soil, and pH meter, I would not suggest growing at all because there will be expenses for nutrients and electricity at the minimum and your yields will be very disappointing. Better to save up until you can afford each item.

Just my thoughts on starting out and some of the errors that I made in my zeal to get started quickly but cheaply.

Cheap ain’t good, and good ain’t cheap.
We do what we have to do. I started out on a budget. I grew some, but about an ounce per plant. Changed everything up. Last harvest netted about 1lb per plant. To me, the right way is cheaper in the long run.

So @Lostscuba are you in Cuba where I know most of the things you would need for an indoor grow would be hard if not impossible to get unless you’re one of the elites? If your answer is yes then we can get a better idea of how to help you.

You’ll need to save up for pH testing & adjusting supplies, no matter what. No way around that, if you plan on growing fire.

“Cheap ain’t good, and good ain’t cheap.” Well said and 100% accurate.

I am sure there are a bunch of us disabled on fixed income. My local hydro store sells used mh/hps trade-ins half price, plus a new bulb. Ph meter $6. Powdered nutes can be most cost-effective. I run two cheap 1800 watt cob led for 3x3 ft. They cost $178 each and claim 365 true watts each.
