Germinating issues new grower help?

Like i said earlier though. To each their own. Everone grows differently and has a method which works for them. All i can say is experiment with both and see which way is more successful for you.

I get so nervous while planting my seeds. It doesn’t take much at this stage to cause them to envelope and die in the dirt. They are super fragile and delicate. I know because I’ve killed alot of seedlings in my past.
I just drop them in the dirt and let them lay as is and hope for the best. I have alot of problems with the seed casings and membrane clinging to the leaves. With the tap root up it solves this for me 99% of the time, I’ve noticed so, yeah, i am going with tap root up but on a diagonally set vector so that it doesn’t have to work too hard getting up out of the soil…

For temperature, I found a nice warm place on top of my water heater that doesn’t get too hot.

“ideal” temps are around 78 degrees from what I’ve read, and nice and warm has been working the best for me.

Back in the 90s i used the cable box as my warm spot :rofl::rofl:

This is important! Very important. Seeds wl not germinate unless they feel heat. That tells them its Spring time…
I always had a low germination rate until i introduced heat to the process. Now it seems every seed will germ…

My germ box sits right at 80 when the light is left on… perfect germination station…

Just some seedling experimentations

Should I place the shot glass on top of a heat mat ?

this should make it easier. Lots of different options/methods with pics.
I have a complete germing tutorial step by step in this thread from dropping the bean in the water to the 3 week mark.

I grow indoors in soil. My pics and input start at thread 40

What kind is soil do you guys use

Also is cloning worth it ?

This is like asking is Jesus real and how babies are made in the same sentence. I might suggest searching feature for “cloning”
And “good seedling mix”.

So not blowing you off; just saving you from strong persuasion essays. I tend to say too much myself anyway. Then come back with specific questions about cloning or seed mixes. Or you could ask an experienced grower you like their style by jumping your question into the existing thread on the topic.

As for planting: I like to do both. If the tap root is under an inch long (check every day) I put it upside down to prevent the helmet head. If it got away from me and is now taping out longer than an inch I gently open a thumb hole much wider than tap root and slide it in root first. Then compress laterally to fill it in. It’s good to do both depending on how much that tap root has unwound.

I won’t tell you how many times I forgot about seeds and was planting paper towels or left in a shot glass. It looks like a tangled worm looking masses with full cotyledons exposed sometimes. Not suggested, many break off this way.

This is a page where you come and ask people for help and what they think so again your commen made no sense and referring it to Jesus also made no sense bc it’s plants  evry grower has their opinion and I wanna hear it of what they think and also it’s kind of was the topic of what good soil to use since where talking about germinating but thank you for your comment it was appreciated but then again irrelevant thank you

Sorry, was trying to be light hearted with the questions my young kids ask as an example. I should have stayed away from Jesus and explained myself better.

I do see how it would be interpreted the way you replied. My apologies for its irrelevantness. All I was bringing light to is it’s some of the most frequently discussed topics besides “what lights.” And you will get a whole lotta answers hard to sort it all out. That’s all. My bad.

I complete get that but then again people are sharing what work for them and what they do no one is saying there rigth or wrong they say their method and what word for them sometimes we might even see something they do better that we might not do or might not take into consideration to much

No worries,

I like to use pro mix, HP, or sunshine mix, for starting seedlings. Both can be hard to find in the spring when everyone is planting. They are both very well draining soil‘s. Less likely to waterlogged seedlings this way. They both have no fertilizers added to burn them to boot. Once transplanted I only use living soil I make myself.

Clones, love em. It the only way to get an exact copy of you favorite keeper. Be it no mold, best sleep medicine, or munchies high. No need to rebuy expensive seeds. That said seeds have more vigor and many people like to try new stuff every time. I, like many, do both. Keep clones of the keepers, and always try popping new stuff.

The main concerns with clones is sharing of pathogens. The main concern with seeds is reproducing a rare pheno never to be seen again by seed.

Life gets better with Multiplicity.
Having a found and nurtured a beauty, why not have more.
Cloning is a tool and can be use with or without Re-veging (also a tool).
Focus, is important in grow management.

Clones travel well. Thes clones traveled from outdoors (the Summer 2023 Clone Dome Farm) to indoor tent, for fall preservation.

PNW rains here. Outdoor grow floating or doing scuba.

Clones residing under source plant.
Two months in tent

Full tent with clones and one re-veger (below, unpon tent residency 8-6-2023.

Yes cloning, for ever.
I learned more from @noddykitty1 than I care to type.
His sharing raspberry plants, hard to find seeds, and methods has become invaluable.
Saved my 2023 grow, because of my calendar and travels.
