Germinating in grow bag?

Hi all,
I’m thinking of trying to germinate a seed in the pot it’s going to grow in and looking for advice, helpful comments or a general discussion. I’m using Promix HP Ready for my medium, mixed with grow dots and dynomyco, along with a humidity dome with vent. This is a 5 gal. bag in a 2x4 with MH FC4000 Evo set for about 80F-85F or so. Should I do some type of prep on the seed or anything I should do before laying her in the pot ? Should I use a jiffy and place that inside ? Any help/ advice is appreciated.

Thanks all.

I plant straight in the pot for my autos and have zero problems

I do a 12-24 hour soak and if they have a tap showing or not I lay they in sideways and have 95% successful germination rate.

I’ve heard of doing the soak before especially if it might be an older seed ( which this is ). Do y’all think I should try to scuff up the shell a little since the seed does have a little age on it ? Or just drop in some distilled water and see if she floats or sinks, lol ? Seeds I’m using are almost a year old, that’s why I’m asking.

Thanks again.

Some scuff them up a little before. I like to put mine in a shot glass with water and h2o2 for 24 hours. Then either plant it or paper towel it for a little bit until the tap root is where I want it.

I soak in 3 parts H20 1 part h202 (peroxide) for 16 to 24 hours. I dont scuff or anything. I then plant directly i to medium whether i have a tap or not. Bout a 95% germ rate. I have seeds nearly 10 years old grow some dank buds  happy growing

Never thought of laying them sideways. Good idea. Especially since I somehow love to put them upside down.

I don’t do Autos, but I do knock the tips of 100% of my seeds. Since I started that I have 100% germ rate. But that’s only what, like 10 seeds. But hey, 10/10 since I started doing it is good. And all of them have a tail within 24hrs. Here’s what I do…

If you mean taproot up by upside-down, this is the proper way to place pregerminated seeds.

I don’t think a plant knows it’s in a pot initially , I can’t see an issue here , I’ve done it in huge pots . The only reason I don’t still do that is old age and worn out joints … DO NOT OVER WATER YOUR PLANTS lol , Peace .

Wow, i did some reading before i saw your reply. Your 100% correct @dbrn32. Funny i always put it the wrong way. Amazing nobody ever really clarified that to me. But i never specially asked either. Thanks for the information very useful.

The other benefit of this is allowing the medium to remove the seed husk (helmet) as the plant tries to surface.

I wonder if this could be a very significant single issue that affects the plant’s size especially with autoflowers? It says there the plant loses vital energy to change direction of the taproot and with autos you don’t want to waste any, in the early stages…

Well I had no idea, but I’ve so far never had to put a seed that hasn’t popped into dirt. Good to know for future use. I’ve now learned 2 things in the past 12hrs. And both are weed related. Imagine that. Probably makes this the best day to drop my seeds and it’s a full orange moon too. I’m sure that means something but don’t know what. Lol! I know it means to turn my horseshoe over so it can start dumping its luck on me.

Will definitely study up some on this. Thanks a bunch.

This why I was confused from the beginning. This was taken out of ILGM germination procedure.

I don’t intend to be contradictory but several of these are dated and/or put together by writers that aren’t necessarily growers.

I hear ya, and i just want to make sure I’m doing it correctly and prove to myself that i knew i read this somewhere. I would love to hear how the majority are doing it. I am always trying to learn best practices.
