General Hydroponics vs Jacks

Ive only used GH but Id like to know people’s thoughts and experiences with the 2. If you have other nutes that you feel should be in the discussion please add’em.

I grow with a soil mix and also with only ProMix BX.

I prefer Promix HP myself.

I’ve used both, including running the full GH line in hydro. Worked fine but is pricey. I currently use Jack’s 3-2-1 with an MKP jolt right at transition.

Jack’s is harder to burn plants, mixes and dispenses well, is very economical compared to GH and grows great cannabis. Silica is recommended and you don’t need to run MKP if you prefer not to.

I thought the only difference was the amount of perlite?

Im not familiar with MKP

This is what you mean by Jack’s 3-2-1?

That’s the two. You’ll need a bag of unscented Epsom salts.

MKP: Monopotassium Phosphate. The normal 3-2-1 ratio is changed to 1.2 Part A-1.2 Part B-1.2 Epsom-3 MKP

You’ll need an accurate scale to properly weigh out quantities. Do add silica at every watering. Keep in mind that silica is always added first, then cal mag (not needed with Jack’s) followed by base nutes.

I feed full strength (900 ppm) once they develop a tap root. No flushing, feed full strength, it’s just not gonna get any easier than that.

PPM has been a bit of a mystery for me. I think that mesured with a meter, got one somewhere, on runoff water.

silica like this?

That’s what I use.

I’ve only used jacks, so I can’t compare but I’ll comment
Jacks is pretty idiot proof. Easy to use and difficult to mess up. If you do mess up, it’s not too difficult to fix if caught early on.

It’s cheap
It’s not messy.

I don’t like that it’s not organic, but I personally am not ready (getting close though) for going organic as the initial cost and complexity is more than I need on my plate, but as far as ease and final results, I can’t say enough about Jacks.

MKP is compatible with most water-soluble fertilizers, except for fertilizers containing calcium (Ca++) or magnesium (Mg++).

Was looking up MKP to see what it is. Ran across that and thought would that not cancle out the epson salt [Mg++] and also any calcium that jack has in it. If in fact it is a true statement. Not saying it is just popped up when I searched it.
I add perlite to my promix BX to make it what I believe is promix HP. Saves me money.

I thought the ProMix BX/HP was the other way around…

Hp has more perlite that is one reason it is listed as high porosity
There are at least three types of promix hp and at least three types of promix bx. Each type containing different chemical compounds. All of the bags look almost identical except for the listing of the chemicals.
The three different chemical compound types are.
MYCORRHIZAE

BIOSTIMULANT + MYCORRHIZAE

BIOFUNGICIDE +MYCORRHIZAE

This is from premier tech horticulture. Google says they are the makers of promix.
While I was at their site I went crap there are a lot of different types of promix. May have to look into this further. Not saying I’m going to change but never say never. I was sold on fox farms and I changed to promix. Bx BIOFUNGICIDE + MYCORRHIZAE
