This was only 30 min from me. I thought i would share this article as a way to learn from someone else’s fatal mistake. Granted these two individuals had prior health problems, the danger is very real. Stay safe grow brother’s.
Interesting read and only about an hour from my house.
Dam that is interesting , I have used in the past the pellets you buy out of the store. Throw some in the hole outside plants. I don’t know why but I always wore gloves. I guess i’m done with that.
If you buy from reputable vendor, should always be safe. Still should be cautious of what your breathing in. Face mask should always be worn, especially indoors. Was not very cautious before this article, but will be going forward. Dry amendment dust is not a good thing to breathe as well.
I agree my friend , mask would be a smart choice.
Bats and their poop can also transmit viruses and bacteria, not just fungus. They think covid19 came from bats.
A close fitting face mask designed to keep fine dust and allergens out of your lungs is essential when working with manures that are dry and haven’t composted. You should also wear a mask when handling perlite or vermiculite, these should be wet/ washed before use.
If you ever go into a cave that has bats in, you should wear a mask in the cave. You should wash your clothes and have a shower after being in a cave or anywhere that has bats in.
All goes back to the basics of composting. The way the quano was handled and processed. Any type of manure, quano, litter, ect needs to sit for AT LEAST a year before being used. Let it cook my neck of the woods there are chicken houses EVERYWHERE along with processing plants. Same with farms. Lots of composting goes on. I always have good air circulation and vents going when im mixing soils or handling any fine particle amendments because of dust. Have to wear a mask at work when dealing with concrete dust due to the silica. Coughing up crap youve inhaled is not fun. Not to mention when i slaved on the trauma trolley the number of agricultural related respiratory emergencies i ran really opened up my eyes.
I drive by take a deep breath and say mmmmm money
Got 16 or so houses around
I know all about the silica brother…thats no joke as well.
When i raised hogs back in the day, thats what id tell my neighbors a few miles down the road who would call and complain when the breeze was blowing just right in the summer… we would have an average of 500 at a time… Smells like money !
