Finally getting to start this. January 11th two of my 10 seeds were placed in water pH’d to 6.8 with Superthrive. It only took a few drops to get it there.
Both seeds broke the surface of the soil on the 15th. I noticed more stretch than I liked, getting used to the new light, so I went ahead and placed them both in their final pot earlier than I expected. Buried most of the long stem for more support and I know more roots will form from the stem.
Something is going on with my phone today, so I’ll try uploading pictures tomorrow. I’ve been wanting to get this started and today I have a chance to do so. Shame Murphy had to mess with my phone!!
I hope everyone is having a better day, although I’d much rather deal with these tech issues instead of health issues. Health wise, today is a great day!!
I don’t know if these are big enough. I’m hoping they’ll work like smart pots in the sense of air flow and root pruning.
They are sitting in Happy Frog surrounded by Ocean Forest. All soil was mixed with course perlite and some food grade diatemaceous earth (DE).
I watered them in with well water because I used the last of my rain water on the mother seedlings I have sprouted. I figured the autos could take the higher TDS better than the sprouts.
These were taken this morning shortly after the light came on. I use the CFL for pictures since the pictures look so odd under that light. Maybe it will look cool after they get bigger.
After I watered them in, a gallon between the two, I topped the soil with approximately 1" of screened soil from my worm bed. Misted them with a bottle just enough to moisten the surface.
I will link the mothers here when I get that topic going since everything is the same as these except for the well/rain water difference.
@Hammer, I’m going to be closing the other topic soon and know you’re interested in the light. This will be the new topic to go through the learning process of this brand.
i can smell what you’re steppin’ in @FloridaSon, i’ve been looking for square baskets/tubs for my grow box… i found an old garbage can bottom for my catch basin,i’ll be at DG this morning looking at baskets now…lol poor folks have poor ways!!!lol
talk to the fabric store people…tell them you are making your own smart pots for whatever plants…but I like the idea of giving the soft sided smart pots a little rigidity…when I pick up the fabric pots, the sides scrunch in at those two points where I lift.
i’m all over it @kabongster, we have a handcocks fabric store close so my boy and i will check things out this morning!!! surely we coulnt get into trouble there!lol @FloridaSon if you haven’t already checked into this,i’ll post report later!!
i’m glad we have more thinkers here than stinkers!!
