Phew, that would have been scary! Glad that it ended fine, except for needing to look for another harness that works.
I have to find one with three straps, there needs to be one below his waist. It’s a shame he’s a runner and a Houdini, but whatca gonna do. At least this time he didn’t run. Fortunately, his tag collar did not come off. But my fear is he’ll get hit in the street since he’s so short.
My rabbits pull a similar trick. They only go to the neighbors yard but they are damn hard to catch! I have a 6 ft ish loop of hardware cloth that I try to drop around them. The last time they got out lilac was sitting right next to it like “yeah, I know you need this!”
Oh, and I found out he didn’t back out of the harness - he pulled at it so hard he ripped one of the straps right off the harness! And it had been sewn in a square - that was a pretty powerful rip.
Ordered a new one that is ALL nylon straps, the tie dye one did have the straps sewn to fabric - and that’s what gave way on that harness.
Sheesh.
I use Ruffwear harnesses on all my dogs.
I used to take them hiking a lot, and had more than one occasion where my leash and harness needed to be strong enough to haul them back up from dangling off bridges or cliffs. so I can say that they at least don’t slip outta this style.
Thanks! I did look at that one, but hesitated because I couldn’t be sure if the webbing went all the way through, or was stitched to the cloth covering. Sounds as if they may go through, given what you said about hauling them up with them.
Well, if the 100% nylon strap one fails, I’ll order this next. This is actually the sixth harness I’ve bought, so we’re working on a new one every two months.
Ouch.
Yeah, I was really skeptical at first. My pitbull is a mutt and she’s a real weird shape. Big fat neck and chest but generally scrawny everywhere else. Her collar slips off over her head with ease cuz her head is smaller than her neck
My friends had one and swore by it, so I tried one and it was so great I ended up buying two more for the other two dogs. - edit to add, I’ve had them for about 3 years now, no loss of durability yet.
Hoping the nylon works! But if not, at least you’ve got a good backup alternative
My greyhounds had the thick neck skinny head thing going on, I used martingale collars for them, but oddly enough neither one was a runaway nor did they slip their collars. Jinx escaped the yard once and got a pretty serious cut on her leg - a nice $2000 vet bill cut - and never tried that again. Willow got out a few time when she was newly here, but she tended to walk off, and would come when called.
This little demon - it’s unbelievable how fast he can run away.
You were discussing your clown dog…I had to chime in… This is my clown Daisy…a friend wanted to see what Miss Daisy was up to, she had sent me a text asking about her. I sent her a text back with this picture bc we were out for a ride somewhere. The friend said, “maybe it’s Maybelline” lol referencing an old makeup commercial where the model’s hair was all windblown lol.
She refuses to ride any other way, no matter how cold it is… Lol
I meant to quote you with the other pic I posted of my girl, hopefully you find it too but here’s a normal pic of my crazy girl Daisy. She’s a hot mess. I bet she and Odie could be Big Buds lol
She’s a cutie! I love dogs with big personalities. She looks the type and I KNOW Odie’s is much much bigger than his body!
Something bout those lil dogs with big personalities… Lol
So little Mr has an interesting way of telling me about what he thinks.
He’s over here begging for a snack, so I gave him a little biscuit, and he ran off with it. He left it on the rug and came back and asked for more. So I gave him the same kind, and he just bumped it away with his nose.
Gotta love when the dog tells you “not THAT treat!”. He’s a hot little mess.
I finally got the fan and controller installed. I watched coupla videos and they said the controller was magnified so you could just slap it up on the tent plate.
Not mine though - the controller is indeed magnified, but something is wrong with the plate, maybe it’s aluminum? I ended up putting the screws in it and hanging it up. I have two fans I can use for intake, a 100 cfm and the smaller of the two big fans. Nice to be spoiled for choice.
I have to take Odie to the vet for his annual at 2, so we’ll see if I have the energy to unpack the Autopot system today. I’m still figuring where to put the controller.
Woo hoo, gettin’ ready for the upcoming grow!
All the best for Odie’s annual physical today! Here’s a dog wearing a vest. I hope that the new one works well.
Oh yeah, he’s well contained in this harness.
I’m waiting to have the vet scold me for getting him fat. I’m embarrassed already. He’s got a bag of diet kibble on the way, but that little guy is the biggest chowhound on the planet. He’s also a thief, which we are so unused to. The greys wouldn’t even touch open bags of chips set on the floor.
Odie - well, every time hubby goes to the bathroom during dinner he jumps up on his chair and eats whatever is left on his plate.
Hubby thinks I can train him out of this. As if. Since he’s eating in the living room, I told him to MOVE HIS PLATE out of reach.
I’ll tell you what, that wore me the heck out. It took three of us to hold him still for his blood test. The vet kept saying - “He’s so STRONG!”
And he gained 6 lbs in a year. They told me to stop giving him dog treats and start giving carrots, green beans, broccoli etc.
He’s a strong boy! But you knew that!
I’ve never had a dog (a year or two when I was a kid, a husky), do dogs like veggies much at all?
My vet told us to quit giving dog treats and start giving animal crackers. Not enough sugar to hurt them and definitely not all the fillers.
He was strong enough to rip the straps right off his last harness…
He likes veggies - he will eat baby carrots all day long. He likes cooked broccoli too.
