Hey guys well I have ran into a couple problems since last time even though my plants recovered after the transplant. A couple days ago I discovered fungus gnats in my medium. I know I need to let the medium dry out. And possibly get some neem oil. But my other problem is one of my plants seems to have come to a complete stop. I’ve been watching her closely but still no growth at all. So I guess I’m asking two things. Any advice on the gnats? And the stunted growth?
Well as far as the gnats go, I feel your pain. About 2 months ago I had the same problem. I did a H202 flush. I forget the exact ratio but you can look it up online. I did two of these flushes about 3 days apart. There were still a few but they dispersed after a few days. Also the stunted growth could just be your plant being a slow grower, it could be lack of light, could be nutrient lock, could be a number of things. My advice there is fill out a support ticket and that will benefit everybody. Then everyone can see exactly what you’re working with
I am thinking lockout could be the culprit. Do you have a pH & ppm meter?
Answer these simple questions the best you can.
If you do not know, or do not use something; Just say so = NA
- Strain; Type, Bag seed, or NA
- Soil in pots, Hydroponic, or Coco?
- System type?
- PH of runoff or solution in reservoir?
- What is strength of nutrient mix? EC, or TDS
- Indoor or Outdoor
- Light system, size?
- Temps; Day, Night
- Humidity; Day, Night
- Ventilation system; Yes, No, Size
- AC, Humidifier, De-humidifier,
- Co2; Yes, No
- If you can, upload a picture of your plant. It helps the diagnosis, if needed.
Add anything else you feel would help us give you a most informed answer. Feel free to elaborate, but short, to the point questions and facts will help us help you. - Thanks
Thanks man, I’m on my phone and don’t know how to copy and paste lol
I keep a copy in my phone note pad.
Strain: banana kush fem from ilgm
Soil: tropi-coco, also small amount of miracle grow potting soil because I ran short
System type: n/a ?
Ph run off: n/a
Nutrients: less than 1/4 tsp per gallon of fox farm big grow veg
Indoor/ tent
300w led for veg 600w for flower
Temps: day 78-80, night 70-75
Humidity: stays around 45-55 day and night
Vent: 4” inline fan for intake, 6” inline booster sucking it out, also a 8” oscillating
Humidifier: yes
Co2: n/a ?
Also I haven’t been watering until I get run off because I had to transplant earlier than I should have into the 5 gallon pots because they are still considered seedlings I guess I didn’t want to over water them also I’ve only feed them one time any advice would be great
You could do a slurry test to check things out at root level. That will at least give you the ppm & pH numbers. Then I could answer whether or not to feed.
With coco, i recommend watering every other day with 5.8pH water, and no nutes yet - your coco is amended and hot. The coco drains really well and its difficult to overwater. In my first grow, I underwatered. Measuring pH and ppm of coco runoff is important to avoid nute lock-out as we as overnuting.
There are stickypads that can be purchased to help with gnats. There is also a peroxide wash. I have lady bugs to keep bad insects at bay too - relaize as a reuslt of having lady bugs in my grow room, I also have lady bugs in my house:)
Ok guys thanks for the info. I realize I’m going to have to check my run off now I was thinking I could get away without. Also since I’ve got my girls in their 5 gallon pots and they are still babies should I water till I get run off at this point
Also I’m going to go today and get ph rest strips and ppm. not Really sure what I’m looking for when it come to the ppm I know it’s parts per million and I think it’s testing the chemicals in run off ? But I’m not real sure where I’ll find it
The TDS meter (ppms) tests for total dissolved solids, and is also referred to as electrical connectivity. It’s a great way to measure your nute concentration as well as what is in your water to begin with. Amazon has TDS meters.
don’t bother with pH strips or soil probes, a digital pH meter and TDS meter is all you need. You can test everything you need with these.
Water to runoff and give it space to drain. I set my pots on egg crates as opposed to directly on the floor so it can run out the bottom easy.
Great advice. Thank you. It seems like I’ve read and researched so much I’m forgetting key elements it’s a lot to remember but it is exciting.
Ok I’m not sure if you guys are watching this but I did water until run off and my girl are full of life already. I was so worried about over watering I definitely under watered so for what it’s worth thank you. @Sixpackdad @ARGrower @Budbrother
A cup of apple cider vineger will attract and kill knats. Just pour abit in a cup or a bottle and sit it in ur tent somewhere
Something to consider. If you just transplanted a few days ago, they could just be growing roots. I think your plants look pretty good. I’ll bet once they get used to their new home, they’ll take off again. As far as the fungus gnats go, a layer of diatomaceous earth will take care of them.
