Hey everyone, so I just started my first grow, am growing in FFOF and have been able to keep my temps around 78-90°F, RH is between 40-73%(it fluctuates a quite a bit), have FF nutes, the main 3 anyways, don’t need to add any yet due to the soil should have nutes they need at this moment, just got 4 of my bagseeds to pop on March 12th, as soon as they popped I have been watering with a ph of 6.5, out the hose is 8ish, I am on well water but not the well water that is all stinky, but it does cause limescale buildup in the house, got fans and everything running in the grow area for circulation, my ppms when I tested was sitting at 114, not much more to tell unless asked, again like very new to all this, I have just watched a lot of YouTube and read online a lot so deciding to give it a try, any advice from experienced growers or anyone with good advice is welcome to help me please, I don’t want this to be all for nothing so please can I get a team here or a mentor to help me, oh yeah I’m running 2 lights in there, not sure how far they should be from the plants, there a couple LED lights off Amazon one says 1000 w and isn’t so blurple, the other is a 600w and it’s more blurple, I have some photos of the plants as they look today, which is the end of day 5 for the little guys:blush:
Plenty mentors in here to keep you square. All looking good just now though. Good luck with the grow.
Going to set to watch. I’m just getting ready to finish up my 3rd grow. Good Luck with your first grow.
Good luck on your grow.
I’ll be watching, good luck
Day 6: Temps are staying at 80-85°F, RH is 30-40%, gave them some 6.5 ph’ed water, everything is looking good, I will try to post updates on them everyday or so for now, thank you all for following me on this new journey for me, good luck to you all and your grows as well
Watch the over-watering, cup a seems to have it the worst (very droopy). Let it dry out before watering again, the cup should feel almost empty (no water weight) and the top of the soil should be dry, that’s when to water. You have holes on the bottom of the cups, yes?
Yes holes in the bottom, thought I was over watering them, probably give them a couple days rest on the water, thanks a lot for noticing it
So far so good. I agree with hellraiser about the water. You said there are holes in the bottoms of cups, i would go a little further and poke some holes on the sides on the bottom 2 inches of cup also. It helps the soil dry faster and the roots to breathe better. Not sure how crucial it will be at this early stage but I always do it. You can’t have too many holes(until it turns into one big hole lol). I am also wondering about the lights. Brand and wattage pulled from wall, led lights will state things like 1000 watt equivalent but those numbers are subject to “interpretation” and a better way to tell how much juice you are getting is by going off the number of watts pulled from wall. I have set this thread to watch, and happy to help where I can. I’m no weed master but I have had several successful grows. Lastly, you had mentioned temp and rh fluctuations and they seem big to me. For your babies you want to stick between 50 and 60% rh and your temps should be no lower than 65 and no higher than 85. Ideally you should have about 10 degrees fluctuation between highs and lows. Going outside these limits can cause problems like high % of male plants or later in flower it can cause females to go hermie.
I was also thinking that you really don’t need to run 2 lights at this stage just for sprouts, one light should be plenty for another week or 2, which would also help with your temps. May need more air exchange to keeps temps in the sweet spot running both lights. With LED lights like you have, they should generally be kept something like 24-30 inches above sprouts, can be closer as the plants get bigger and acclimated to the light.
@Hellraiser @StillHigh1982 Definitely gonna do the holes and thank you for noticing something I could do, this is a budget grow and I can get more things but it’ll take time, again I got what I got thinking I would give it a try, I live in a very hot and humid place most of the year and the youngling and veg is taking place in a pop-up camper, don’t have a meter to tell the watts, I can give you what I know though, first one is a 1000w bestva led, 2nd one is a philizon 600w, maybe you can go with that and give me feedback, I have them on a 18/6 light schedule, got my RH to stabilize at around 46% gonna set a bowl in there by a fan to get more moisture in the air, my lights were at 12inches but before reading this I moved them to 15 inches, will move them further, and I will go down to 1 light if I need to or can, my veg room I would predict it at 3x4x3, after the babies woke up I took pics so you can tell me how they are looking, have also been able to get my temps to stay around 80-83°F during lights on and about 75-80°F when lights are off, again on really hot days, it’ll be a challenge even for my ac to keep up, will take pics of my grow area in the next pics to come, it’s still a work in progress, and I will be getting another room setup for flower, it’ll be in a shed probably, but when I come to that, I will be needing all the help I can get, plus any advice on how to get these guys all grown up on a budget would be nice, just trying to see if I can do this, again a lot is betting against this being successful but it can’t be impossible, so I need all the advice and knowledge I can, I will eventually be upgrading hopefully before this grow is over to quantum board lighting but the funds aren’t there atm, again thank you both for the input gonna get them lights moved up further and put more holes in them cups😊
I have 4 of the bestva 1200 watt dc series. They work great. Not sure about the other brand but you have one decent light for sure. Not as good as quantum boards but great for the money. Another light I tried that I feel like was a good deal was the mars hydro ts1000, they are right around 125 bucks and it will work to flower a 3×3 tent. It gets hot but I put a small clip on fan on the ballast and it solved that problem.
1 week old today!!! Gave them a little spray with the spray bottle today, went 2 days to let them dry out!!!
Looking good.
A common problem with new growers is they love their plants too hard, a little extra water too often, want to give ferts too early and too much, want to put 1000 watt light 3 inches away from the plant so it gets even more light, etc… all the stuff that can slow down and stunt growth or outright kill them. The phrase I learned a long time ago about this great hobby if ours is “less is more”, less water is better than too much water, less ferts is way better than too much ferts, easy to add more later, not so easy to take back.
DAY 8, can anyone give me some advice on best cheap ways to insulate this 93 Coleman pop-up, and I’m just trying to insulate from heat from outside, using one of the bunk ends as the setup, so any helpful information would be appreciated, the temps are staying stable so far around 85-91° during the hot hours of the day, and that’s with lights off at that time!!! This is why I need help on insulating, I need control of it and I can’t control it to a degree @Hellraiser I am gonna use that advice majorly, I took pics of them this morning, here they are!
This is the grow area!!!
I’m not sure on how to insulate the camper, maybe some more air exchange would help, worst case you could go with a small portable AC unit inside the camper to keep temps in check.
I will look into that, and another big question, are these styrofoam cups holding in to much moisture possibly? Seems I haven’t watered some in 3 days and then I have them each like 20ml of water and they start to droop, I feel like I don’t know if there over watered or underwatered or if it’s something the little seedlings do with there leaves, I do got plastic red Solo cups, should I change pots out or what should I do and how do I get others on this thread to help me? Thank you in advance for everything you already have helped me with and to come
I wouldn’t think the cups are a problem, but 20 ml of water every 3 days does not seem like enough for week old sprouts, specially in your warm camper. When my sprouts are in solo cups in a 76F environment, they get about 80 ml of water every 4-5 days at first, then every 2-3 days until they need it everyday at which point I transplant into a big pot. A way to make sure you’re not under watering is to water the soil fully, water until some runoff occurs so you know all the soil is moist. Then don’t water again til it’s about bone dry, feel the soil, dip a finger down into the soil, don’t water if it’s moist, wait til it’s dry, feel the weight of the cup, should feel almost empty when it’s time to water.
@Borialis is how you tag someone they get a message and a link to your tag. Lots on here know their s#!t so if there’s a name you’ve been reading try it.
Someone correct me if im wrong. If his temps are constantly above 80 he has a better chance of making the plants males? This is for my gain in knowledge also. Sorry if im wrong. Definitely not an expert. First grow myself few weeks ahead of you.
