First time grower. Help and tip request

Whoa, pretty cool. You whipped that up pretty quickly haha. I’d keep the fan blowing in at the bottom. If you put it at the top, whatever heat the light is putting off will be blown down at the plants. Probably not the best for them.

Fingers crossed

Is the smell that potent? I was thinking the aroma would be contained within the room and ventilated through the house recuperation system. I guess I will have to start looking for ways to solve this…

It does not seem like the LED is producing a significant amount of heat anyways (it has a fan of it’s own that directs the heat up, as previously it was positioned directly above my first tent opening thus all the heat was concentrated towards the plant with very little space and it never went past 23c (ambient room temp ~22,5C). I repositioned the fan ~25cm away from the light, and it is slightly lower than the LED.

Note taken, I will try it both ways, but the reason I moved it above the tent, was that i was thinking that the air is just being recirculated within the box when the fan is positioned on the bottom of the box, rather than blowing in fresh air from the room and forcing “old” air outside of the box.

P.s. the temps are stable at 23c (same as room temp, but starts to increase if the fan is switched of) and 50%RH with the fan on top.

Had mine in the basement, whenever I had the tent open, I could smell it the minute I walked in the door upstairs. At least that was my wifes complaint anyway lol

Could start a mink farm or get some ferrets, maybe a pet skunk…jk.
Seriously though within the next few weeks will probably require some mitigation effort.

@nicholas1 Hey man you definitely got some good advice here already! Here is a few things I recommend too.

  1. Maybe cut a hole in one of the walls and put the fan in front of that too pull in fresh air, which would then push old air out the top.

  2. Start the grow in a 16oz Solo cup with some slits cut into the bottom. This allows you to water easier as the pot is more proportional to the plant. You simply wait until the pot is almost dry by comparing it’s current weight to the weight it was at when freshly put in the pot… Also when you transplant into a bigger pot, this can encourage better root growth.

  3. What kind of water are you using? Do you have a pH meter? This is extremely important when watering your girls. A pH of 6.5 is recommended for soil grown ladies. Incorrect pH leads to nutrient lockout and your plants will suffer. Here is ahandy graphic to show you the availability of nutrients in relation to the solutions pH.

  1. Have you given any thought to nutrients? You are going to need some sooner than later.

Like @HMGRWN said, you will want to think of smell if that matters to you.

I love what you did to your setup! Quick thinking and you’re gonna be rewarded for it.

I have 1 Zkittlez in like week 5 of flower vented into my bullhead, I can smell her when I pull into my driveway. I will absolutely run my filter when I have more than 1 in flower!

Love that graph! :star_struck:
Just wanna add that it seems @nicholas1 is just sticking a toe in and don’t want to overwhelm with a lot of technical info. Just remember it is basically a weed (no offense to the plant). It is a very useful weed to be sure and a lot of fun to grow and experiment with. Take it slow and store all this info to draw on later when you decide how deep you want to get. A basic tent set up is just a couple hundred $US and will pay for it’s self in no more than 2 grow cycles.

Yes always take your time learning for sure. Just don’t want to see his grow go bad

I feel 'ya. I am having a small issue currently that is likely a Ph problem. Zkittles in mid flower [quote=“HMGRWN, post:3, topic:64218”]

Very impressive solution! Circulation should not be a problem as it is now. The open top will allow temp differences to exchange the air. Smell for one plant should be easy to contain if you close off the room it is in. To be honest, I was overwhelmed with the knowledge and advice in here. Everyone is excited to help a new grower and it can get scary with all the new innovations in grow technology. Take it as fast or slow as you are comfortable with and always have fun. Sorry if I am rambling but I am enjoying the fruits of my labor and sampling some (immature) trim. :cheese:

That look like soil from outside… not good drainage

Anyone help me on when I can put my auto flowers outside after seedlings pop indoor?? First time with auto’s

Autos don’t care. As long as temps stay above mid 50s I would say.

Yeah you can , they will start flowering automatically regarles of the light , if the plants feel mature enough it will start to flower

For which pic? The close-up leaf background is concrete. Definitely not good drainage lol.

Currently this is the setup, in theory it should be relatively close to your suggestions just a tad bit less efficient. I will consider your suggestion if i see that the current setup is lacking, or if i end up covering the top of the tent

The grow guide i was following states that you should plant auto flowers into the final pot, which is what i have done; germinated in a peat pellet and potted it into its final container… I have seen this discussion quite a few times in different forums and the info is conflicting  Anyways, it is too late now , maybe if i grow another plant i will give it a shot.

I am using double filtered drinking water, it is close to distilled but with added minerals needed for drinking water. Unfortunately, i do not have a PH meter, but i would guess it should be very close to neutral. I saw 2 in1 Soil PH and water meters, are those any good (they are very cheap ~10eur)? It would help me with the watering as well as measuring the PH of soil. Can the soil PH tester be used to measure water ph?

I have not, i was under the impression (read it somewhere) that you don’t really need any added nutrients if you use compost soil. In my case it’s 50% compost and 40% peat moss… Another problem, is that that there are none of the ready made nutrient mixes (mentioned in forums) where i am from, thus i would have to ship it from somewhere (which is a pain in the…)…

Hehe, it’s not a money issue, it’s a wife issue and not being able to source anything locally  Managed to convince her to let me experiment with this one plant, but any further experiments are not looking good for the time being, hence my hesitation on just buying a full grow kit. Also, i have to figure out what to do with the yield if i manage to successfully finish the grow

That is what i was thinking and hoping… If it gets too bad, i can move it to the attic above the garage and improvise there.

I have to agree, so much useful advice and very keen members of the community. Appreciate it!

That’s what I thought but some say you have said wait until there are 3 sets of leaves before they go outside. I think I will put 1-2 outside and see how they grow, have been growing photos outside only for 16 years, first time with auto’s and starting indoors first… Thanks all…

Hope you understand what I meant on some have said about the leaves not you lol. What do you expect 68 years young and enjoying my granddaddy P…

Sounds good! Just keep in mind plants grow vertical too unless you do a lot of training. Not sure how high that set up is, but it may need to be higher in the future.

Ah forgot it was an auto… Yes some say if growing an auto you should plant in its final pot at the beginning because transplanting can shock the plant. I personally didn’t do this with my autoflower. When I transplanted I used a product that is supposed to help with transplant shock (amongst many other things). It maybe lost a day or 2 of growth at most. Just my experience!

Hmm I know nothing about compost soils or anything like that so someone else would be better to ask. We do have a homemade soil category here on the forums or something along those lines that you can ask in when you are ready. There isn’t any grow stores in your area? Can’t get this stuff at your local Walmart or whatever. Talking about the small ‘mom and pop’ shops.

it did not make it myself it’s a ready made mix for flowers. Even perlite is not commonly available, so just found a soil mix with perlite already included. Seems ok for the time being.

normal grow stores are available, but the stuff they sell are for flowers and vegetables, thus nothing that is used specifically for growing bud is available there (stuff like happy frog and such)… :frowning:

Anyways, looked into nutrients a little bit and found a good shop in Germany that has a wide range of products and i could get it shipped to me. Would Advanced Nutrients Voodoo Juice do the trick (is it considered an all-round balanced solution?), or i need much more than that?
