First Time Grower Drying

How long does drying take? Ive been drying for a week now and there is still no snap to the stem.

Depends on your parameters.

Lots of people suggest drying at 65°F and 50-60% RH for 7-10 days. A long slow dry is ideal.
Too high of temps or humidity can create a mold environment though.

Temp has been between 65 and 70. Humidity between 40 and 45. Is this ok?

Should be alright. Let’s check with some others though. @AfgVet @dbrn32 @HappyHydroGrower @Sincitytoker @Low

65-70°F and 40-45% RH okay parameters for a dry?

Thank you for your help. Much appreciated.

Sounds spot on in my not so expert opinion.

@Legomaniac where are you growing out of if you dont mind me asking? Im along the gulf coast and drying takes FOREVER (think 2 weeks) around here. Relative Humidity is normally sky high tho around here tho. Think 80%+

Depends how long you want to dry. 65-70 at 40-45 sounds like a 3 day dry. It will work… Ideally, prolonging the dry process will yield you better quality buds as the trichomes don’t degrade as much.

I’ve done 60°/60 successfully on 10-11 days. I’ve also done 55°/60 for 15-20 days. 65-70°/55 for 5 days…

Also dry time doesn’t account for how said plant(s) is/are being dried, branch? buds? whole plant? Air flow also contributes.

What part are you checking for the snap on? It should be the twigs.

This part tho. Good question there dude. Definitely makes a difference.

Also at a certain point I ALWAYS snip my colas up. I know they are pretty but it speed the dry by a ton. Single nuggs dry alot faster then 8-12 on a stem

I like to keep the RH closer to 60% if I can. If I can’t keep it that high I’ll hang the plants for a couple of days then I’ll put it all in paper bags to slow down the dry. I can usually manage to get a week out of the dry using the paper bags. Just open the bags at least once a day and move things around a bit

@PurpNGold74 im on the east coast CT.

@Low whole plant and checked the smallest twig for a snap.

After reading different sites about drying I started to get nervous. I made it this far and dont want to mess it up.

I appreciate the help from all.

Whole plant is a different animal, I’d say you are good. Dark are, some air flow? Fresh air exchange?

I shoot for 60/60 too. Doesn’t always work out that way, but anything close is usually reasonable.

I kinda feel like is all workable as long as you don’t let dry too long. Too many seem to dry for 7-10 days in conditions more appropriate for 3-4 days. I usually just watch my smaller stems to not be pliable to jar.

I reach for 55% rh and my temp between 65 n 70 f. This takes 10 days to dry usually. I will get a snap in the big stem it hangs from but it won’t break completely. And i wait for the buds to feel slightly dry to the touch but still a little spongey. I cure in jars. Burping twice a day. Give the jar a good shake and leave open. letting it sit out for a few minutes each time. Do that for the first week then burp shake and aerate once every other day. I try to cure for a month before smoking. But i can’t help myself sometimes. Haha

Thank you for the advice. Especially on the burping. Just cant wait to try my first grow lol.

I have a quick question? While doing the snap test i heard snaps as i bent. So when i was taking the bud off one of the stems i bent it for s#@t and giggles and it didnt snap. Did i take the bud off to soon?

If i did, what should i do? I don’t want it to get moldy. I’ve been burping the jar 3 times a day and leaving it open for about a half hour. I shake the jars to loosen the bud so air can get in. Not sure if this is right. But its what i read.

Again thank you for you help.

Just take them (all those questionable buds) out and let them sit somewhere well ventilated.

Give em the squeeze test tomaro. U will learn the feeling. Its not… crunchy so to say but crispy. And just on the outside. If you were to break one down the interior would seem freshly cut.

Thats normally when I jar em up.
