Yes, half gallon during whole 3 gal pot phase works fine, should always be enough to get some runoff. On the 7 gal pot I start with a gallon of water and later move up to 1.3 gals per plant to get some good runoff. You’ll notice I always want some runoff, it helps flush out excess salts and plant waste instead of allowing it to build up much in the soil which will cause issues in mid/late flowering.
@Hellraiser can you look at this and give me your opinion?
I noticed these brown spots on one of the plants, on about 3 out of 5 new sets of leaves coming in. I think it’s a cal mag issue, but I used 3ml to 1 gallon the last 2 feedings. Which last watering was 3 days ago. I did add 2 caps fulls of big bloom to 1 gallon as well.
On what I think is a second issue is the yellow tips, I don’t think I had the lights high enough up. The yellow tips are on 2 of the plants.I have moved the light up to 21" above the plants.
I had the girls sitting next to each directly under most of the light, I moved them away from each other and not directly under the light. I didn’t take any ppm readings off the last water. ![]()
Thank you!
I’d kick the light up some more, try 24-26 inches if you’re running at 600 watts to lessen the intensity a little bit. What sometimes looks like a calmag deficiency is sometimes an excess of calcium. You know theres no deficiency because you’ve been using calmag. Next watering just go ph adjusted water only and clear them out a little. Theres also a bit of calcium in FFOF so just may be overdoing it a little.
Get some Happy Frog for the final transplant before flowering, it’s more suitable for flowering than OF.
Going to pick up happy frog next week from a store that carries the entire fox farms line, including nutes, will we be good with the trio nute line we have, or should we add something?
Light is raised, I’ll keep an eye on things for a few days. Thank you!
The trio has everything you need, there are a lot of add on supplements, some good and worth having, others more questionable, but none that is needed for a successful harvest. If you don’t mind spending more on nutes, you could make the move to Advanced Nutrients for flowering, no more messing with ph, none of the scheduled flushes associated with FF trio.
@Hellraiser, quick update on the plant above, the new growth has slightly yellow tips, but no more brown spots. I think it was access calcium as you mentioned. However interesting it’s only that one plant.
Is the light now being over 24" above the plants going to have any negative impact on the end results? I don’t know if light placement is that important.
Here is a pic of her this morning.
Naw, 24" is fine with the 600 watt MH, still way more light than needed in a 3x3. Some plants are more sensitive to nutes/lights than others, another little downside of growing different strains, different nutrition requirements, some will be perfectly happy with what you’re giving while another plant can be getting a little too much or too less. But I’d give all your plants a break from the calmag and big bloom for a couple waterings just to give them a chance to use up any excesses of either. She looks good.
Something else you can do, if you’re not already doing, if still using tap water - let it sit it out for 24 hours before use to let the chlorine evaporate off.
@Hellraiser. I watered the BG today. I let the water sit overnight, never did this prior. I kid you not, the pH was at 6.5. I double checked it was pH solutions too…crazy. lucky me. The BG runoff was at 1155ppm. Tomorrow the AK with the calcium we addressed gets watered tomorrow. I’ll post those ppm. Just not sure if the ppm are telling us anything now?
Amazing tap water you got there. The 1155 ppm is telling you that the ocean forest is starting to use up some of the nutes contained in it. I think it starts out at about 2000 ppm or so when fresh and gets lower as the plants use up the nutes. When it gets below 900, then time to start feeding at low doses (1/4 dosage).
Day 35, would have never made it this far without this forums support and especially Hellraiser.
Top is AK- minor setback with too much calcium, she made a quick recovery though.
Middle is WW at day 28.
Bottom is Bubble gum, she is really taking off!
@BeeKeeper2 @SKORPION @A.D.O.G
Looks like you caught it quick , they looks nice and thick. One of mine is thick the other 2 seem to be focusing on height gonna let it go for a bit and see what happens.
Probably has a little to do with me topping them. I also hit them with the circular fan a little harder than just a soft breeze. I move them around a few times a day to get different angles of light.
Yeah that makes sense if you topped them.
@ Zee I did read a little about wind burn.
They are Much farther along then mine. Any advice on cutting them?
You referring to topping them or defoliate? I topped above the 3rd node, right below the 4th. You want the extra top of 3rd node.
Defoliate, as Hellraiser said and stuck with me, remove leaves that are in the way of branches getting light, and those in the way of watering. You will get plenty of leaves.
If you top, the middle will need to get light, so every so often, you will need to clip those leaves off too.
I pick up what you’re saying about wind burn, maybe?
Wait for those girls to get roots down before you top, if you do.
@SKORPION didn’t top, and his girls are healthy. He is a new grower with a great journal going.
@Hellraiser I forgot to tag you. Thanks again for the guidance. Really enjoying this new hobby!
@Zee @Hellraiser @Myfriendis410 I had intention to cut it above the 4th node so, 8 branches. Zee we don’t want that many? Also how many plants are you going with in 3x3?
3 plants this grow, with 4 in my next. 8 branches (Colas?) Is correct on topping above the 4th.
@Myfriendis410, glad you tagged him, not sure if this thread is under the correct category? Went from asking for help to journal.
Mine is in the wrong section to I was gonna have Db or myfriend move it, just been slipping my mind.
