Any thoughts on top dressing with some ground oatmeal until I can get the stuff from Amazon?
Thats true and maybe even worse its carbon-nitrogen ratio is so far off it takes nitrogen away as it’s broken down. I found out it’s bad to let it mix into the topsoil. I only used it as soil cover but maybe some got mixed in by moving it around and watering. But I had success with it before too. So yep I’m just avoiding it from now on
@Jaysittinback; I used to use coco as a mulch on top of my soil. It makes it easier to scratch dry nutrients in, and helps hold moisture in the soil. But after harvest I would find this coco full of tiny roots. The plant must send out these tiny roots at the soil surface for oxygen. I suspect that these roots made their way into the toxic ground cover. Again just a guess on my part.
i never heard of that one and cant say about topdressing. I dont know any quick sources of N.
I’m not saying do it and I never done it but some gardeners on the tube say pee is a good quick source of nitrogen. Dont say you heard it here.
And when passing me the joint no eye contact.
I finally got my meters. I let them dry out after double dosing with grow big a few days ago. It appears as though I didn’t kill them yet . Watered to runoff with rain water, no nutes. Split 1.5gl between them. Now what?
PPM in 6
PPM out 947
PH in 6.72
PH out 8.36
For just plain water that ppm is way too high. Should be around 300.
Too high ph coming out I can’t explain that. The pros here will guide you well. But that ppm is just too high for water. Stop using rain water. I suggest get tap water and let it sit for 24 hours to allow Chlorine to evaporated. Just my two cents. And water the soil. Not the plant. I see she is soaked. Water around her leaves edges. The soil below the leaves edge. Not the leaves.
@harleyspops, the ph out is your main issue. The wood in the medium is causing the rise in ph. In my opinion, short of starting over, you have two choices.
1, Deal with the ph by contentious monitoring the run off, and adjusting ph in to obtain the correct ph out. For example, you should be going in at about 5.5 until you see the run off at 6.5. This will be a balancing act throughout the grow.
2, Transplant them to a soil designed for weed, (Roots or FF), while they are still small enough to do so.
The rain water going in was only 6ppm. Is that still a problem?
Not 600? So that is super low. Like ickey said before. Fix your ph issue. But is weird that your ppm is just 6 and is coming so high. Ppm should go in at around 300. When is just water.
With tap water should be 200-300, but not rainwater. It should be very low.
So you need to raise it to 300 yourself… Use epson salt to raise ppm in plain water.
Oh man. I gave y’all 500 scale and not 700 . I had watered with double the dose of grow big 4 days ago.
2/4 water only
500 PPM in 6
500 PPM out 947
700 PPM in 8.4
700 PPM out 132
@harleyspops, Any water that you try to ph needs to have at least a mild PPM value. Since there is nothing in very pure to hold the ph at the desired level. When I give my plants RO only, I know that it will not change the ph level of the soil.
You will need to buffer the water with cal/mag before adjusting the ph of even plain water. Before it will pull the ph down in soil. Again this is just an unnecessary thing to deal with by using your soil.
@Ickey tell me about it. LoL. I started worse. LoL
@harleyspops, make sure that you, your meter, and nutrient schedule are singing from the same sheet of music.
I know a thing or two about problems with bad soil. LoL
Thanks y’all. 3 bags of ocean forest and a quart of calmag on the way .
You going to love it. My grow change dramatically once i change to ocean forest. This one is a month old. No nutrients added yet.
I think you should start over and don’t waste no time with that one you got. By the time you fix that. The one in ocean forest will be just as big or more.
Edited to fix 700 PPM out
