First grow soil questions

It’s nutrient rich and maybe a tad too much for seedings. I’ve had much better results using happy frog for seedlings @VelcroThumb

Give it a try. If you have some ffof left over you can layer the soil so that the older roots grow into it

@bob31 I have started indoors as well and with pro mix hp and recently added ffof mix into my transplants from solo cups to two gallon and have noticed more gnats on my yellow sticky traps . Do these organic soils really bring in bugs? I was hoping the ffof soil could help in areas I may not know I was deficient in but I’m not sure about adding another issue like bugs . The ffhf didn’t bring as many of the critters and seemed to better in your opinion? The plants are ok but the bugs are there
Thanks for any help

I was overwhelmed with soil gnats with the FFOF. I used FFHF and had no gnats. I’m of the opinion they come from the bat guano.

We have had discussions about how to kill them before using the soil etc. Though I just went with stickies and a couple bowls of Apple Cider Vinegar.

I started layering the FFOF on the bottom of the pots and didn’t get any gnats with the FFHF as the top layer.

I hate them little buggars. PITA! @cj7huntngrow

And just to be fair, I got the FFOF and FFHF from two different stores.

Have you ever heard of checking the ph of the soil? Or just the ph of the water?

What is a tds meter? And what does it do? Thank you

Measures the Parts Per Million of the nutrients you are feeding your plants. If the PPM is too high, you can damage the plant. Too low and the plant doesn’t get enough food to grow good @Newbie53
