First grow, figuring this out one day at a time!

Hey! My names Brad and I recently decided to start growing. I’m working with a 4x4 tent along with two 1x4 extension areas for seedling and early veg. I’ve got a small cheap light for early veg (only running at 10W) and the 600W ChilLED light will be here tomorrow May 14th, 2021. That is when I will place the already transferred Lemon Haze into the 4x4 with the larger light.

For now I have everything cramped in the upper section of my 1x4. 1 plant mid VEG which was a gift from another grower on this forum to help me get started. 2 sprouted seedlings which started germination on May 1st, 2021, and 3 new seedlings which I started on May 10th, 2021. (Plus 1 clone that isn’t gonna make it but keeping it in for another day or so just to keep hope) this is the 10th day I’ve had this Lemon Haze plant in my possession and I’ve watered it every 2 days making sure the soil is dry about an inch under the surface and it’s first feeding was 2 days ago (which is when my nutrients finally showed up (Running Jacks Nutrients)) The Lemon Haze looks like it’s got some light bruises on one of the leaves and also some of the upper leaves are starting to curl (no color change on the tips yet)

Also another small concern is this seedling seems to be growing in a weird spiral, is this normal?

Does anybody have any advice as to why either of these girls might be getting upset? I pruned the Lemon Haze for the first time about 3 days ago but never actually saw a mood change from the pruning. Any help would be much appreciated, Thank You!

They are trying to get proper lighting. You have the bulb way to high.

Will it hurt the Lemon Haze if I bring the light down to an inch or two above it to get the light closer to the seedlings?

With it only being 10 watts, I don’t see an issue. Now the 600, which is probably no higher than 200 true watts would cause problems.

When in doubt, @dbrn32 the Light Guru. What say you?

I would put something underneath the the cups to lift them up instead.

Here’s the light that will be here tomorrow, for $1200 I hope it’s strong enough :joy:

Thank you! I will find a box of some sort. Any ideas on the curling leaves on the mid veg Lemon Haze?

It’s a very nice light!

Maybe pics are misleading, but leaves don’t look bad to me. You could maybe check your temp and humidity against vpd chart.

2 babies are starving for light. waay too tall, good news is…transplant and bury until 2" are showing. then move to within 18" of weak light.

So I finally got my new ChilLED light set up but how I’m curious what I should run it at for early veg? On lowest dim setting I only pull about 30W and on highest I’m pulling exactly 595W from the wall. Any ideas height and intensity wise? I’m thinking 24 inches above plant at 200W for its stage right now?

Ended up starting at 15% power at 90W. Let me know if that will work?

May be a little far away for that power level, but you can always watch your node spacing and see. How is the temperature inside the tent? Ideally with this light you want to be around 80f or so. If you are much cooler than that maybe leave light where it is and turn up power some to get some heat in the space.

This is day 4 that she looked a little sad and now her leaves are starting to lighten on the ends. Any idea what could be happening? Using Jacks part A and B. Typically supposed to use epsom salt as well but haven’t brought myself around to purchasing one just yet. Could this be a deficiency? Possibly too much light? 24 inches away running at a true 150W (total power of the light is 600W tested) any help would be much appreciated!

plant looks okay to me, and isn’t showing that it has too much light (canoeing or reaching up). be careful about setting to a schedule of watering “every two days”. you need to pay attention to the plant and water it when it wants it. try to get an idea what the pot feels like when it is full of water and when it gets dry. be careful not to over water. when pot is light, plant needs water.

How is this looking after couple more days? I would get the epsom salt soon. Sams club sells 14# box for $10 that would likely last you for years if you have membership. Walmart and Walgreens sell too, just don’t buy scented or mixed with anything else.

Looks much better! It was most likely just new growth which I didn’t understand considering i am new to this. I did end up going out to purchase some epsom salt and I also agree. I need to learn when they need water based on weight. I appreciate the help!

Here’s how the others are looking (all about 2 weeks apart from each other)

  • I’ve got 1 Lemon Haze clone which is the largest.
  • 2 Kandy Kush in the 3 gallon pots which were germinated on April 29th
  • and in the solo cups I’ve got 1 Gorilla Glue, 1 Durban Poison, and 1 Animal Cookies which were germinated on May 15th.

2 baby’s in the 3 gallon pots are not feminized seeds. How long before I will be able to tell if they are male or female?

looking good brad. looking at the solo cups i remember another little trick that helps a lot. i put a clear solo cup inside the opaque solo cup so that you can pull the clear one out and inspect the roots to help decide when best to transplant. i wouldn’t change what you got going on now, but for the next one.

i don’t do regular seeds, but think it will be at least a month unless you put them under 12/12 lights. you can do that, and then put them back into veg state by putting them back into your 18/6 lighting after they show if they are male or female. i think they have to be out of seedling stage for this to work, but not sure on that. veg stage starts when you get 4 nodes separated from main stem.

Here’s a week update on my plants! Everything seems healthy other than the occasional spot or two on some random hidden leaves. Here’s a run down of what plants are in the tent.

  • I’ve got 1 Lemon Haze clone which is the largest, planted on April 23rd ish.
  • 2 Kandy Kush in the 3 gallon pots which were germinated on April 29th
  • and in the solo cups I’ve got 1 Gorilla Glue, 1 Durban Poison, and 1 Animal Cookies which were germinated on May 15th.

I’m a little over a month into that Lemon Haze clone. I’ve topped it once and now I am at a point where I’m unsure what to do. Any recommendations? I’m debating doing a Loli then pruning and dead/dying leaves. Stem seemed to grow on an angle after growing straight up about 6 inches (I’m guessing because of the weak light I had it under for about 2 weeks causing it to fight for light and grow crooked) also thinking it’s almost time to top those two Kandy Kush. Thoughts?
