First Grow - Am I doing this right?!

Okay so been wanting to grow for years and finally decided to pull the trigger a few months ago. Got the auto flower mix pack from ILGM and started up a bit ago. Here are the details:

Indoor grow

Plants: Blueberry Auto and Northern Lights Auto

Soil: FFOF in 5 gal cloth pots. 20% perlite mix

Light: HLG 260

Tent: 3x3x7

Other:
AC Infinity Cloudline 6
FF Dirty Dozen. (Started using at 1/3 rev dosage in week 4)
Apera pH meter
Cheap Amazon TDS meter

Dropped my seeds on 3/11 in a shot glass and then into Rapid Rooters 24 hours later. Both seeds sprouted on 3/13. Moved them both to the pots on 3/16 as I had read that autos don’t like to be transplanted later.

Tap water tests at 6.5-6.8. Watered lightly without nutes until week four at which point I started the FF nutes at 1/3 dose.

The northern lights showed pistils at week 2 and started flowering in week three. I did some LST in week 3 and 4. Here it is in week 6. It seems healthy but really small. Is this just the luck of the draw or am I doing something wrong?

Here is my Blueberry at week 6 as well. Getting very dense and seems to be starting to flower. Pistils started to show just last week. Did some light LST in week 3 and 4.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. It’s pretty small. Never had one start flowering in 2 weeks. I have grew quite a few Autos , including Northern Light. I would keep taking care of it. See what it has to offer. My experience with Autos usually 4 to 7 weeks start flowering. At that point they have a little size to them. Good luck An welcome to the community.

Welcome aboard!

My guess is just bad luck and damn autos having a mind of their own. Doesn’t sound like you stressed her into flowering around week 2. I’ve had a couple flower early too but 2 weeks is ridiculous. I’ve also stunted some autos by stressing them out one way or another. The more grows you get under your belt, the better you will get.

One thing though after re-reading your post. I don’t think you need to use nutes with that soil till 4-6 weeks. This could be the culprit of why she flowered so early. Do you check ppms? They could have been running 4000+ at that stage with nutes.

Happy growing!

Agree that it look like it was bad luck. The good thing is you can start new ones really soon and try again.

the first one has a little nute burn on the tips of leaves.

Or you could not grow autos and grow photos instead and have complete control of when flowering occurs.

Definitely some lessons learned here. Seeing that I hadn’t done any nutes or LST when the NL started flowering, I’ll have to assume it had to do with some version of a combination of the FFOF soil and the plant being an auto and luck.

I’ll get some FFHF for the next grow to create an area around the seedling that isn’t as hot before it gets to the FFOF.

Also, haven’t watered to runoff yet as I’ve been scared to overwater. Only started the nutes in week four as that seemed to be a consensus starting point (at a fraction of the dosage) gleaned from reading posts in here.

Truthfully, this seems to be one of those things where reading and research leads to a better result but you really just have to dive in, pay attention and learn.

I used to do low stress training with autos but I don’t now and I use coco with no perlite I use a good quality pH pen and nutrient metre and 1000 watt LED as a result my Autos are about 4 ft tall with some nice big buds I have had one small auto hot t
hat’s about it most of them are being quite big

Okay. A few weeks later and I am wondering if some of these buds are ready?! My hands aren’t steady at all but… the trichs seem to be hazy and some parts of the more mature buds seem to be getting a good deal of amber. Thoughts?

Looks perfect to me! I guess it’s all what you want. I prefer a few more amber to be honest but I think yours is at the right spot for highest thc. Guess it depends on what you want. Good job!

Thank ya! Sooo. Never done the next step before and the Blueberry auto is still several weeks away from ready. Should I do a flush this weekend and then harvest next weekend? May do a partial harvest as there are a few newer buds that are filling in nicely but are at least two weeks behind the ones pictured.

I’d do a flush ASAP. Do you have a ppm meter? Want to make sure those get below 200 for smoother smoke. You planning to flush with tap water, RO water, or something like FloraKleen?

Was planning to do a flush with some Sledgehammer that came with my dirty dozen pack. I’ll try and get that done tomorrow then. I do have a PPM meter. Was running ~ 1900 earlier this week.

When I do harvest, would it work if I hung them in a paper bag in the tent but above the light (which will still be on a 12/12 due to the Blueberry)? My wife is super sensitive to the smell in the house so anything else might get me up a creek.

Also… if I partial harvest to let three or so of the buds mature, will it matter that I stopped feeding?

@Crewdawg
I would not have them in the tent as it will be too hot. You could do a paper bag anywhere else in complete darkness but I do not use that method. Should be a temp of 65F-70F and around 50 RH

Only use your tent if it’s empty with no lights on.
