First Ever Grow: Skywalker OG Kush (deleted last post)

Good to know! I have hard well water where I’m from so I’ve been using distilled water. I just ran out of the distilled water and the lake water made me curious but I will definitely not be using it!

How heavy or the ppm of your well water. Raised on well water I can remember tasting the minerals. I ask because of cal mag supplementing. My tap is 7.2 PH and 130 on the PPM so periodic calmag is needed due to the lack of minerals.

The ppm was 200-230 and the pH is 7.6, so that’s actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

I guess I can start using my tap and adjust the pH after adding the nutes.

With Coco should I be using:
A. Cal-mag/silica and nutes every watering
B. Cal-mag/silica every watering and nutes added every other
C. Some other combination… Lol

I’m assuming I should be watering at least once daily, correct?

The great thing about coco is it’s airy texture and the decreased chance of overwatering. What’s your nutrient line? I can only offer my personal preference but I mainly look and listen to my plants. I’m old school and still stick my finger in the medium up to my 2nd knuckle to check dry or damp. When I top fed (using auto pots now) using coco I watered every other day and would check my run off for my ec/ppm level. I try and follow the nutrient brands recommended dose and cut that throughout the grow, speaking of FF trio. I use Jacks 321 now and it’s so simple and much better in my opinion. As far as supplemental nutes like calmag and silica, I feed calmag once weekly 1/2 dose through veg and silica every other feeding for the first 4 weeks. It’s a preference and testing run off and health checks daily. Silica is an awesome supplement to promote root and stem fiber strength and growth. There’s a few more experienced growers on here that can help, like @AfgVet. She is a huge coco fan and her grows are in coco.

Your tap water PPM is close enough that calmag maybe a every now and then supplement. Higher the tap water minerals = less calmag. Not quite sure where that threshold is though.

In coco you want to give nutrients everyday.

I’m not familiar with using silica and cal/mag, I use as needed. I use Jacks 321 nutrient line and they do pretty good. Occasionally I’ll have a stain the needs just a bit more

I am using the Ilgm nute line and have Botanicare Calgmag & silica-blast.

I’ve heard of the FF trio and am tempted to try it when the ilgm nutes run out but I’ve also heard that you really only need 2 of the 3 products.

I also am wondering about trying another fert called Foliage-pro (3-1-2 ratio) by Dyna Gro, just to see what would happen and I use that to feed my citrus trees

Thank you for jumping in to help!

What exactly is Jacks 321? I keep hearing about it and have seen recipes and such but I don’t know what the product(s) are.

How much water does it take to appropriately water 4 plants in 1gallon nursery pots? With coco/perlite (70/30)?

I don’t want to make to little or make too much and have the shelf life of the nutes run out. However, if I’m adding nutrients/watering (fertigating?) everyday then that shouldn’t be a problem.

Once you grow Jack’s, you’ll never go back… haha!, get it :joy::rofl:

I used GH trio and calmag while I grew in coco. I think just about everyone I know that has helped me has gone to Jack’s including myself except I’m in hydro. Also, everyone I know in hydro just about is using Jack’s.

If you search Jack’s nutrients, you will find it. It’s cheap and works like a charm.
YouTube has a video with all you need to know.

It’s three parts Part A, Part B, and Epson salt which you can buy at Walmart. If you have questions about it, feel free to ask.

I’d say about 1/2 gallon. I was using a gallon a day on 9 plants

Jacks 321 is a nutrient line @imSICKkid introduced to the forum. Good stuff. Just google Jacks 321 nutrient line

I had 4 and 5 gal fabric pots in coco/perlite and I would feed about 1.5 gal to get enough runoff each when mature. There are various ways to feed coco. Some feed/water and some feed/feed/water. I did the feed/water and I only used calmag with GH trio. Seemed to work out good.
IMO, I wouldn’t think you wouldn’t need more than a gal for all four plants. :v::sunglasses:

Jack’s does not require calmag.

Sorry I did not see you answering that. Don’t mean to contradict anything you have to say. I would have to listen to @AfgVet myself. :v::+1:t2::sunglasses:

No worries. That’s something that’s hard to say…environment can play a big role in how much water is needed.

As a side note, I feed Jacks to my plants in coco every day. Water to run off though to prevent salt build up

Okay, so I didn’t realize that I used the same brand of fert (Jack’s Classic Citrus FeED 20-10-20) on my citrus trees.

I, however, made the switch to a different brand (Dynagro) because of Jack’s containing mostly urea nitrogen, and if that builds up then it can cause salt burn/root burn. Does the Jack’s 321 contain mostly urea nitrogen in the Bart B of just nitrogen? (15-0-0)
