Fan leaves on flowering photo plant dying fast

This photoperiod plant is in about week 7 or 8 of flowering. Ethos genetics. Buds are super frosty but fan leaves are dying fast and i can’t figure out why. 5 gallon fabric pot. Floranova Bloom 1 tsp once a week with Rezin and Recharge in Growers High Porosity. Supplemental watering of 1g plain water once a week. Definitely some clawing of leaves. 4x4 tent with Growers Choice ROI420 on full. VPD 1.5. Temps 69 dark, 77 lights on. Thoughts?

What’s the run off PH Grow Bro :love_you_gesture:

Haven’t tested runoff. I am pHing water to 5.9-6.2.

You should use a drench method on feed days with liberal run off occasionally testing the run of PH and PPMs. This will let you know what’s going on in the root zone :love_you_gesture:

Thanks. Should i remove those dying fan leaves? I started growing about a year ago and was using living soil until recently so i don’t have much experience with testing runoff. Any guesses on what the problem is? I won’t have to water this plant for another 4-5 days.

Leave them on while they still contribute a bit. It looks like end of life fading, which is normal at 7 to 8 weeks of flowering. The plant is done growing and is solely focused on ripening flower now. The leaves will eventually fall off.

I would begin testing runoff pH and PPM. It will help prevent problems.

Runoff PPM should be: ~1,000.

Runoff pH should be between 6.3 and 6.8 assuming soil. 5.8 to 6.3 if in coco.

You got some good advice: my suspicion is the media is full of salts. I would not be surprised if runoff PH comes back at 3K or so.

In future I would suggest feeding using a TDS meter and run 900 to 1,000 ppm in veg and 1,100 to 1,200 ppm in flower.

Thank you. If that’s the case, could i flush the medium with plain water right away or wait for next watering?

I would do a runoff PH and TDS before flushing. Let’s see what the runoff actually is.

Only if runoff PPM is extremely high or runoff pH significantly out of range (typically low among less experienced growers.)

Get pH and PPM meters and manage them going forward. You will be able to effectively manage a number of problems by educating yourself on the basics.

Your plants are fine. Monitor trichome maturity and harvest when trichomes are to you taste.

I have a BlueLab truncheon for pH and EC but don’t i need to run a lot if water through medium to get runoff to measure?

And is this problem caused by not getting enough runoff during regular watering to wash away some of the salts?

Possibly. The indication will be a low runoff pH.

I recommend a minimum of 20-30% run off of what you’re putting in. The run off acts like a soft flush rinsing away any accumulated salts from the previous feeding…doing this helps keep a healthy root zone and the PH in check :love_you_gesture:

I left out how and why and this is it: :backhand_index_pointing_up:

Let us know if you confirm that runoff pH is low. We can help you sort it out.

What media (and brand if soil) are you growing in?

I’m growing in Growers High Porosity. Using Floranova nutes. I’m still a little confused about testing runoff. Should i only do runoff check during regular watering or can i check runoff any time?

Good afternoon. I believe what they are telling you is when you water you want about 20% of what you watered to run out the bottom of your pot. That serves 2 purposes, one it helps to keep the salt build up in the roots washed off and it gives you something to test. A lot of people check the ph every watering. :victory_hand:t3::blush: I hope this helps.

Makes sense, but can i check runoff between waterings or only during regular waterings? I want to check runoff today, but i just watered the other day, so i should wait until next watering to check runoff?

Just my opinion I would check on your next watering. If I’m wrong someone pop in and say. :victory_hand:t3::blush:

Thanks. I’m just anxious to see the results and correct. I will wait and report back. Thanks everyone for your feedback!
