Fabric pots..Worth it?

Hey gang, got my gdp fem in a 5 gal hard pot right now. Reading that a bigger pot “could” increase yield.I know it isn’t as simple as that.
I found some 10 gal fabric pots on amazon. Question is do they let the soil dry out too quickly? And, i put my pot on block so its not sitting in its own waste. Is the bottom of these strong enough to support themselves without squishing around the blocks?

I really like the rain science bags personally as they are far more user friendly and way more resuable. These bags do dry the medium out faster than fabric or plastic pots which i really like as in coco that means i can water more often or if i really wanted to 2x a day

Hey @Rockdog62 ,
Fabric pots do so much better than hard ones. Roots develop much better. Here is a pic of the root system where I set a 1 gallon fabric pot into a 5 gallon fabric. No need to remove the fabric , just set one inside the other. The roots don’t circle around but they start to go through the sides and prune themselves. They develop side shoots galore.

Im team fabric pot as well.

Yes the wet/dry cycle speeds up, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. Ceramic/plastic pots tends to hold ‘wet spots’ in the soil for too long. And root growth in those areas is noticeably less. Fabric pots allow the roots to breath easier, and tend to air prune roots, letting them continue to grow where the plastic counterpart would make them become rootbound and grow slower and smaller.

Its almost a no brainer once you try them. Something small that makes a huge difference

5 gallon pot indoors is plenty. You can go bigger - 7 gallon, if you like to lift weights, have a strong back, and trying to fill a 5x5 tent with one plant.
Hands down fabric over hard plastic. No comparison. And now that I have tried rain science bags, fabric is history. I’m even going to use 3 gallon rain science bags in autopots.
One GDP in a 5 gallon rain science pot filled up my 3x3.

A 5 gallon autopot brand (spring pot) fabric pot turned inside out.
It is a mess but roots filled the entire bag. In a plastic pot the roots hit the side, forms a mass and chokes everything.

Rain science bags. A quick rinse (literally) and are ready to go.

Two GDP in 5 gallon autopot spring pots

Love that little tidbit, plastic pots hold wet spots.

Finishing first harvest, did 2 in straight canna coir in 3.5 gal plastic pots.

Are all mediums susceptible in plastic pots for wet spots.

Please and thanks

Absolutely. Just cant lift or move 10gal, anymore.
Fabric for soil, always, a NO BRAINER.

I would suspect that the larger the soil container, the SLOWER the soil dries out. the better than others. bags are re-usable and STRIONG. some 10gals bags will get used outdoors, summer 23.

I hear you, and feel you. I have employed the drag technique. Using a real high tech blue tarp. Ha

I have 6 nectarines scions (clones after graft) in 10 gallon pots I drag all over my backyard. If they are freshly watered good luck moving those. With out the high tech help. :scream_cat:

I hope the birds dropped enough seeds from my sunflowers to provide volunteers come this summer!

Could and most likely will but not necessarily. 3-5 gallons are plenty for the experienced grower

Way too quickly… but I wouldn’t use anything bigger than a 5 if you only have a 7’ height limit.
