I’m sure you all will think I’m nuts but here goes anyway.
My third year growing so I am still learning
Grow room is 3.5w’x 3.5’d x 8’t
Last year I had two 700w led lights and ended up with some light burn
This year i went with one 700w led and ended up in a quandry.
I got to 65 days flowering and had no amber trichs
I have been monitoring trichome progress daily and still have less than 15% amber
I tested each plant and took an initial cutting off all four plants, 2 Crystal, one white widow and one Gold leaf
So I am in like day 100 of flower and still do not have more than 15% amber trichs
I switched to 400w HPS around day 75 thinking that the LED was too weak to properly ripen buds
So now all the initial buds are sprouting new buds while the trichomes still have few amber.
Some trichs have begun to degrade but some are still clear.
I’m using GenHyd nutes with CalMag, and Molasses.
New growth looks great, big buds
A picture would help
You got some long flowering strains to with that hps and led just be patient they will all explode with trichomes every where and the gold leaf gets big and heavy and worth the wait.
At 15% amber, they’re plenty ready.
I agree ^. Can’t help but asking what you were looking for?
As long as you don’t have clear trichs you should be ok. Cloudy trichs are where you get your THC.
275x3 china led just finished 2 Crystal and 1 gold leaf. Total 600g, not bad, not bad.
Gold leaf was ready day 50 but day 55-65 was when buds grow enourmous. I cant get much amber for her too, she had bananas and must be cut off . All signs showing shes ready, but non amber trichs.
But Crystal was 70 day wonder, than i have 5-10%amber. Another Crystal come off day 50+ i need fast stone… And led light Error cause her stress and again
15% amber will probably put you on the couch with 100 days of flower @Tarzan
Have you considered reducing the light? That would force flower to “hurry it up”.
Wow you guys! Thanks for the quick responses.
Seems like I am learning one or two important things every year…slow learner!
I hadn’t considered the different flowering times for different strains cause I monitor trichomes almost daily.
Obviously that is a legit factor that helps clarify my puzzle.
I sprayed my plants with a home made mixture for white mold which I suppose could be a factor.
I cut another batch of top buds from 3 plants yesterday cause I got to thinking that I am obviously past the optimum timing. Still have a bunch of new growth lower on the plants.
I tried defoliation for the first time this year, that’s probably a factor too.
Next year I plan to use only HID lighting. I guess these older model LEDs just do not have the intensity I need. Thanks again for the quick support, please feel free to provide any thoughts or advice you have.
Actually no, the reason being I am trying harvesting in stages. I have cut the primary growth, apical buds, and am hoping I can extend the harvest long enough to get the secondary and tertiary buds to ripen and put on weight.
It seems to be working at some level, I have some smaller buds that are thriving and doing great.
I am ok with a little more amber cause I am thinking that, in the past, as I have cut the whole plants I have inadvertently harvested a whole bunch of buds that were not ready.
Probably over reacting some but I guess I will write it done to experience.
Thanks again for the feedback!
two or three stage harvests are a viable option. usually the lower buds will increase and bulk up nicely…given strong light and time. of course, that also means you are locked into the current light schedule. the trichomes will eventually turn amber.
