Very good advice that somehow I understand. Completely understood. Thank you all for the input. Currently is sitting around 18 inches away. The bigger plant, the top is 14 inches away…
Yes to most of this, but no to making it the same thing. Inverse square law is real a thing, but is nearly useless in this context. This is why I formerly would rag on everyone that improperly qouted their dli as being whatever it measured directly under the center if their light. If the only thing processing light energy was at the point of light measurement then we could say this and not really bat an eye at it. But light is being processed all over. By definition ppfd is ppf per m², so as long as neither the light output nor the size of grow space change the ppfd doesn’t change.
The flaw in this is only considering what’s going on at the point of measurement and not everywhere else in the space. As you lower a light the pattern of throw tightens and yes the point directly under center of most lights will go up, but the amout of floor space receiving light goes down. And when the light is raised the opposite happens. In neither case is there more less photons in the given the space. This is important because even the photons not directly absorbed by plant can bounce around and additionally be processed. But more so that taking a single measurement or even small group of measurements doesn’t satisfy the required data for calculating a true ppfd average or dli.
Greetings all. A little update in the mini plant. She have started to stretch. I don’t know if I did right. But I removed to big leaves that were covering the whole bottom of plant. Seems to have worked. The bottom of plant have begun and future bud sites are emanating from below. Did I did right by removing the two big fan leaves from the second bud from top to bottom. The top image is the one with the leaves still on. The bottom image is without. And I see a huge difference.
Looking good Growmie. I leave as many leaves as possible and prune them up right before flower and then again at week 3 and 7 of flower ![]()
Trim only as necessary to maintain good airflow within the canopy so that the plant can breathe easily and also to prevent mold development. The plant otherwise needs those leaves to manufacture the sugars the plant needs to grow and be healthy.
That one looks good and great advice from @MidwestGuy. You can also use LST and tie downs to spread and open them up for air flow and light penetration versus the urge to remove leaves ![]()
I think you, Underthestairs, and I are the morning crew for the newer folks with questions. ![]()
I appreciate it. Sometime I want answers early and the pot heads are sleeping.
no disrespect as I’m one too.
I’m US Eastern time, but I get up at 2:00 every day to work.
Yeah. Me too. New Jersey here. Up by 6 ready to work now by 7.
Up early with you every morning before I leave for work. It’s my morning therapy routine ![]()

Florida here, right near the eastern/central line. Totally agree, ILGM with coffee is sooooo much better than the morning news ![]()
After filling the humidifier to keep the tent at 70%
hahahahaha
Wow. Though I was the only person checking this page out as soon as the coffee is done in the morning. Nothing better than a cup of joe while checking the page. Bustelo expreso black. Ayeeee
I have to fill twice a day. Morning and evening.
Always here looking and sharing even changed light cycle a little so i didn’t have to wait to see my babys. Its very relaxing I’m not a coffee but my Bong hits do the trick lol.
Same reason why my lights are dark 12 am to 6 am. Get up lights are on. Growing autos.
Yeah, my veg “area” is on 6am to midnight so I don’t have to worry about light leaks, and my flower tent is on 9pm to 9am for night time warmth, I get up around 7’ish Pacific time most mornings, so I can check on the flower tent as the coffee brews in the morning AND when I go out for another puff at night!
