You’ll need something air tight to cure ? Can you get plastic storage tubs ? They are inexpensive in the bag it will just dry out till it dust bro
I perfer glass myself but even a plastic bucket and lids would work
Happy curing :v: CB

i’m thinking of donating a case or two to the church during the fall festival and gather up the jars…lol
just a thought brother…local eating places may have some they are willing to let you have…

I use rubber made totes for larger quantities they don’t seal air tight and are easily burped large enough to deal with pounds verses ounces shake then burp couple of times a day for first week or 2 then once a day checking rh every couple of days

Use canning jars. You’re local Walmart should have them cheap or order on Amazon. Quart wide mouth jars work great

I totally understand as I’m in the same boat financially. To put it into perspective: $12-$26 for canning jars = 4+ pounds of hamburger (on sale), or a few dozen eggs or half a month for water bill. And the list goes on.
But somehow we’ve managed to get seeds and have grown some nice plants and need to keep as much of the harvest as long as we can. So we look at alternative methods from grow to cure that fits within our budgets .
I’m trying “curing” in different items that I have on hand ranging from wood cigar boxes, recycled glass jars, plastic jars, etc. Boveda packs are not in my budget so I’m using rice bags. Will my harvest stay as fresh as others? Maybe, maybe not. But I’m from depression era survivors and remember how they used what they had to make their lives better. :+1:

Problem is that I don’t have any RH mini meters, smells of hay as I’ve heard it will do, jarred the ones that felt dry on the netted wrack and I’m going to go through everything to check it’s ok now. Hopefully they turn out ok!

sometimes it will smell like that in the beginning of the buds are still to wet
I can’t help you with the mini hydrometer but if you have a large on and say room in 60% humidity
If you dry your buds out till stem snap not bend then put in jars or plastic totes etc to cure burp min once a day for a half hour some like to do it for more or less
Time for the first two weeks of storage then a few times a weeks after that dorvthe next two weeks
After that you can just keep it sealed opening once in a while to check on it
Also trim buds up as close as possible to remove as much leaf matter as possible should also help with smell
Sometimes you’ll loose the smell all together before it cures FYI @McLovin777

Smells good up close hanging, I’m sure it’ll be ok. Going to get mini hygrometers, plastic tubs will have to do for now. Damn I hope the smell comes back strong, so weird how it’s proper slinky loveliness then hay… still sticky with resin

@McLovin777, when you get the buds in containers I’ll bet the aroma comes back up. You have to get buds pretty dry to ruin the smell.

@SmoknGranny Absolutely nothing wrong with recycling items you already have. I try to keep cost down myself. I’ll be recycling canning jars for my buds. Luckily I have plenty because we grow our own veggies and can a lot of them. We also hunt our own meat. We totally understand the survival mode… Good luck to you :v::heart::sunglasses:

Yep :+1:. We’ve become a “throw away” society.
As I said my end results may not be as potent as others but it’ll get me by. And I’m learning what will work and what won’t work for my particular situation. :grinning:

Baggies have worked since the time of the Pharaohs. They even found some in King tut’s tomb.

If you want glass, any old relish, mayonnaise or other jar should work fine. If you’re worried about the lid imparting a smell, you could put a little plastic wrap over the jar before you put the lid on.

With the amount of things I accumulate I try to repurpose everything I can I still use vac bags for long term storage but have used cardboard boxes to dry paper bags jars even plastic bags to cure but totes are quite practical for me since I can reuse over and over and cure in bulk

Thank you all for your help, I opted for a protein shake bucket a big bar and a big plastic food container, might find some cheap jars today hopefully. I mean… this isn’t even half! Most is still hanging… So as much as I love to recycle I doubt a months worth of jars (Even if I had them still) would do it ") what a problem to have aye! Couldn’t believe my bloody eyes when we chopped… got to the point of being like right f you little buds I’m sick of you! Learnt a shiz tone. And a lot of that’s down to you guys and gals so I thank you again.

Also fogured they where at 70 R H with my one meter so put them all in a box to dry out a bit more, (did 40% wet trim bud off the stalk ect)

You are so right about accumulating stuff. But when you find ways to reuse it it’s a bonus. I’ve used totes for a variety of things and can add this “hobby” to the list :grinning:
