@flyinghigh I have Vipar Spectra lights and they will grow weed…BUT you get less light and efficiency plus a lot more heat! Go to Horticulture Lighting Group(HLG) and check out some of the DIY kits or components to get some ideas. You can get pieces here and there and save some $ and get a better light that will last longer too. The gentleman mentioned above by @Cannabian is the lighting pro most here rely on !

They need fresh air just like they need light! Per my post above, may be an issue in your neck of the woods getting goods from HLG, seems I seen some growers where not able to have shipped there. I am pretty stoned though  :sunglasses:

If you go with hps you will probably want to get proper air cooled hood setup.

I would probably check with cutter electronics to see what he has suitable for you space if you want good led tech.

I love my hps lights. Air cooled is definitely the way to go though to keep things nice.

Hello dbrn32,

thank you for your help. my budget is tight and appreciate your advice. in the process of making things right for my grow room and will certainly be taking your advice on board. A big learning curve for me and just love the help in here. waiting on things to arrive in mail. Due to current covid 19 blues, things are taking a lot longer. Ordering from the US is not an option for me. low $ count and shipping is overboard.

Cheers

Hello BRFarming420,

Is that a Myna bird?

Hello Cannabian,
My new friend is a “magpie”. Common here in Aus. Very curious bird indeed. Wife and I rescued him from side of road. Now he goes everywhere I go.

Day 9

To my surprise my girls had stated to spread there tenticles in peat pots so I have planted them in there new home. So far so good. Just a reminder I have 2 gold leaf and 2 afghani. Happy chappy so far. Soil used is a blend of broken down compost and seed raising mixture. Unable to get any perlite to mix with soil mix.

The Perlite aids in aeration and drainage, a little sand or small gravel will help some although they are a lot heavier. With good soil you probably will not notice the difference! Welcome to the forum man! Does your helper like shiny gadgets?

Hello Holmes,
My little helper loves anything shiny and has also nicked a scoobie from my hand. he is a little devil for sure.
In reference to the perlite, due to covid nonsense, imports have been very slow and perlite is on of them. I am unable to even go to store as restrictions are in place. Stay safe my friend and happy growing.

Seen a video on a Eurasian Magpie and this little feller could use 5 different tools to solve 5 different puzzles to get his food. I have seen people that are not that smart
You have a great one and stay in the zone also my friend.

In reference to my girls, I am worried because most journals on here show more progress than mine at this early stage. I am doing a lot of reading on here and i am just a little concerned.
Also got my exhaust fan installed today.
cheers

Your girls may have been a little shocked from being over watered and then dried back out. Your soil mix sounds very dense and looks like it holds a lot of water. Adding something to help with aeration/drainage and/or using fabric pots will help a lot with preventing over watering.

Also…

Full disclaimer here: This is just my personal opinion and shouldn’t be taken as cannabis growing gospel.

If growing outside is an option for you, you should consider it. Indoor growing is great if you can afford everything and/or DIY enough to get by, but a lot of cheap/bare bones indoor setups yield way less than if the plant had just been grown in good old fashioned sunshine. That’s why mine are currently all combo grows. They get sunshine any time it’s feasible and go under my just-barely-enough, low budget lights when necessary (i.e. at night [they’re basically on an 18/6 schedule], during storms, during extreme heat)
