Eight Strains, One Tent: A New Grower's Adventures

Sooo, I basically killed them all. A couple may pull through, but the Super Skunk and Pure Indica are dead af!

I’m terribly sad about this, because the Pure Indica was the one I was the most excited about trying and the Super Skunk was growing better than any of the others. I guess this will be a learning experience for me.

I am going to start four seeds tonight and hope I can pull at least two of the current pants through til the end.

How did you kill them?

I honestly have no idea. I’m thinking it’s because my PH was so out of whack?

@3high5you Whoa ive never seen a plant go white, but from what I’m guessing some sort of chlorophyll problem, but I’m just guessing because I have no idea. Maybe even mold, did you keep them pretty wet over time? or light bleached dang I just don’t know, throwing out guesses.

EDIT: Also maybe a wave of thrips? I guess they deprive the plant of chlorophyll. So have you checked for pests?

Thanks for the help! I think they’re too young to have a mold issue? The PH was very high for some reason and it was at least a week before I realized it and corrected it. The one that popped last, Gold Leaf, is doing great!

I haven’t checked for pests, but this is a brand new setup and first grow, is that even possible?

@3high5you I sure think you should fill out a support ticket. I think you had more than a pH issue there and I think it would be better if you posted all your grow info before those other seeds pop.

Could you find one for him to have him fill it out what kind of soil ( medium )are you using again? Thanks bob

In the posts he says hydro but in the pics I see soil or a soilless mix?

Strain; Various

Soil in pots, Hydroponic, or Coco? Coco/Perlite mix

System type? Hand watering for now, but considering a drip system

PH of runoff or solution in reservoir? The average is about 7.5, but I am currently watering with 5.5 to try to get this down

What is strength of nutrient mix? Zero nutes, but I am using a weak CalMag and Phosphoric Acid to buffer PH

Indoor or Outdoor? Indoor, 4’W x 8’L x 7’H grow tent

Light system, size? Five of the generic 1,000W Double Chip LED Chinese lights

Temps; Day, Night Day Temp is 79-81 F, Night temp is 69-73 F

Humidity; Day, Night Day Humidity is ~50% night is ~35%

Ventilation system; Yes, thermostat controlled 6" exhaust fan

Humidifier only when lights are running

Co2; No

For some reason, no matter how much flushing of the coco mix I do, I cannot get the runoff below a PH of 7ish. The runoff was roughly 9ish when I first noticed this problem and started trying to correct it.

There you go @bob31 will help you out where I can’t because I’m still a beginner honestly, but if you say the PH was high then I’m sure that just added onto the problem. I think pests and mold could start as soon as the seed splits. Pests could even come in the soil or medium you use as well as mold from badly stored soil.

I double checked just to be sure and there is no sign of any infection, be it insects or mold. Light bleached may be a possibility. I have been running 3 of the 5 lights, maybe that is too much for these little ladies?

Well at least youre pretty sure it’s not a mold or pest problem, one thing you can check off the possibility list. How wet do you keep your medium? Could possibly be damping off, but like I’ve said just guessing cause I can’t really say from experience. Idk if indoor plants can get too much light honestly just another thing Bob may know or can direct you in the right direction.

I have been watering every day and a half or so. Not letting the surface go completely dry, but there is definitely no water left in the bottom of the pot by then. From what I’ve read, this is the best way to deal with coco til the root system is fully established and the cotyledon have fallen off.

Hmmm well since it’s Coco I can’t really say because I have absolutely no knowledge on that medium so maybe a more experienced grower can hop in and help you from here.

You are right you are not supposed to let coco, dry.but did you rinse your coco coir out? If not then that could definitely mess with you.
The only ones I know who grow coco is usmcjojo and Yoshi
Jojo hasn’t been around though.
@Majiktoker @garrigan62 @MacGyverStoner can surly help

I did not rinse it. I followed the directions for rehydration, but did not think you adjust the ph afterward. I rehydrated another brick with 5.8 water and the run off was about 8.5! Not sure if it’s the coco or the perlite, but this time I adjusted the ph of the water and kept resubmersing it til it came out around 6. Should I rinse it with another bucket or two of ph 6 just to be sure?

I removed the three plants that I thought might still make it from their pots and put the soil in one of the grow bags. I then rinsed with 8 gallons of ph adjusted water and the runoff was about 6.2 ish at the end. I potted the three back into this coco mix. Hopefully they pull through!

Damn. Sorry for your loss. You definitely need to get that coco down in pH, but a great thing to institute into the grow would be a drip irrigation system. Then you won’t have to worry about the coco drying out.

Keep trying tho, don’t give up dude, you’ll figure it out and get it dialed in!

Thanks! I am definitely not going to give up. Pretty bummed that I lost most if not all of this first round of seeds, but I am learning as I go and will eventually get it right.

The owner of the local hydro shop is trying to get me to setup a drip system as well. Is it worth the cost/maintenance hassle?
