I’ve grown a few different varieties of MJ… now I’m wondering what the easiest bud to trim is in your opinion? Seems like this preparing for drying/curing takes forever! lol Thanks.
Hello @ccason , I believe the trick is keeping up with maintenance of the plant . Will be the most beneficial for you to do with the harvesting of your plants . Plus , maybe there’s a thing they do ( i can’t think what it is called ) . The day they flip the light cycle to 12/12 . They go over the plant and remove a lot of the fan leaves . Then about four or five weeks later they’ll do the same thing again . It helps get light to the lower bud sites and the harvest time and trim times are less . Good luck and read what other’s have done like like what you maybe doing . Whether it’s outside , inside , soil or hydroponic . There’s really clever people on here . Whom can help if problems arise .
It is called schwazzing. On the first day of the 12/12 flip the plants are defoliated. The at the 3 week mark it is repeated. After that it is a maintenance thing to keep light getting to all the bud sites formed.
I like to hand trim , Which takes time. You’re Solid Dence buds are always easier to trim. As mentioned @Kan72. The maintenance of the plant through It’s different stages of life. To try to get the most light throughout the plant to get the most solid dense buds possible. Airy fluffy buds are more difficult to trim. Just my thoughts. Good luck.
I think the easiest bud to trim is the one you hand to a friend to trim…
I watch tv and have a friend trim. I donate him some green and I get to watch. I do help some but cant keep up with his mad trim skills.
Overly leafy flower is a PITA to deal with. There are a bunch of strains that don’t do that and would favor those strains to grow.
My Maui and Amnesia Haze auto are super bushy and I actually trim fan leaves once a week and I still can’t keep up with them. They seem to like the weekly trim. Just trying to maintain them so I don’t have as much work to do at the end of flower. The next ones might not like it as much. But one thing I have learned is that every seed has it’s own genetics and they need to be grown as such.
Thank you!
Defoliated? Ok I’ll peel them in the morning. Thanks!
Thank you - appreciate the response!
What are the names of those strains please?
These are Gold Leaf.
It seems like a lot of the sativa-dominant strains tend to self prune back to manageable. I like a nice Sour Diesel for example.
@ccason I don’t know if you’re asking me but mine are Maui Wowie and Amnesia Haze auto from ILGM. Remember each seed has her own unique genetics. You can plant 3 of the same strain from the same bank from the same order
and all can look different. So you’ll have to treat each seed as an individual. One may like being trimmed and the other might go into shock if you trim to much or to often. Every grow is a learning experience.
@Myfriendis410 yes my sour diesel doesn’t seem to regrow her fan leaves like my maui and am haze. Every grow is a journey.
