Find bulkhead fittings with a 1-1/2” slip/slip
Get pvc pipe and primer/glue at Home Depot and attach the buckets together
I’d go as far as using that bucket with the level on it as your reservoir then you’ll see when your levels drop

Let’s not forget roots - one plant can easily fill a 5 gallon bucket with it’s roots.
@PharmerBob thanks for your reply. And do you have any tips or advice on choosing what branches to cut? Your pics really impressed me w/ trimming & cropping and results. I’m in a 20" x 36" learning on my first grow. Got carried away put 3 - 5 gallon single bucket dwc. I can access them easily to feed and test levels just not easy to get at them all around for trimming. LST using netting made turning buckets to groom no longer an option. I’m thinking 2 next time w scrog. Or should I just do one?? Gotta get some medicine in the jar err cabinet.
Looks like mine from them but I’ve got single plant mesh bucket lids. I’m doing my first grow three 5 gallon buckets. I’ve learned that’s too many for a three foot wide tent… doh. I suggest like @dbrn32 did a single bucket one plant for your space. Next grow I’m only doing one, maybe two buckets. Even w trimming the tent fills up. I have a journal of sorts under new auto grower advice I believe - includes pics you’ll see what I mean… Good growing!
@neofirebird anything smaller then a sharpie is cut away and made into clones, then cut leaves and undergrowth up from base to allow airflow. I do this the week before turning to flower. Other then that I trim away dead growth or small branches as it grows upward.
So you keep the undergrowth until a week before flowering? Weeks before flowering I’ve got a lot of not sharpie sized branches all sporting flowers… It makes me wonder if I cut later appearing branches during veg I’d cut down the overall size and reduce the flowering to less but larger colas?
You really just give the nutrients and energy that could goto a bunch of smaller buds to larger colas and side buds.
Your plant will double in size between cycles.
You’ll have more overall weight and quality in the end product
Upskirt, now in this pic you can see my neglect in allowing more branches than I’d like to grow but the end result wasn’t bad
That’s about where I’m at looking like your base - it’s my first grow as I said so trying to maximize yield and looking at your plants I love how you’ve kept the branch count minimal but this picture helps me see better how you go about your grooming. Thanks great skills you have…
Thanks I’ve taken what I’ve done from outdoors and tried to minimize it with the space available. We’re going to start a whole room setup within the next year or so. Should be much easier to grow bigger that way
I found 6" net pots bucket lid for $6 and bulkheads on Amazon for $4. Do I need a valve to control flow from res? Do I aerate the res the DWC or both?
I don’t use valves I allow the water to flow freely, if your worried about leaks add shutoff valves.
Personally I only aerate the areas I want growth to be in, so I drill into the side of the top of the buckets which plants will be in. Thread the air line thru then add stone on inside of bucket
I wasn’t worried about leaks. I was wondering if I have two buckets without a valve the water level in both buckets would be the same because water is self leveling. So how would I control my water level in the growth bucket? I thought I would have to have a valve to open to fill the growth bucket to the roots. I am obviously missing something.
The roots will get to the water if you use drip rings, once there they will explode with growth.
Small pond pump (10-15$) from amazon and a 1/4 hose to the drip ring is all you need
Ok that’s the step I missed. I was going to start in a 3" net in a solo cup then move it over once the starter cube was rooted. So I need the drip ring setup.
Yes sir! I also do starters in a aerogarden or simple aerated bubbler system with aerogarden pods in them
Or you could use those foam pucks, I just got some from amazon myself but have yet to try them out
Hi, since I started growing 6 years ago I have been DWC only and you should use I 5 gallon bucket per plant. The roots will get stunted with 4 3in baskets in one 5 gal bucket. I don’t think you could even fit 4 3in net baskets in a 5 gallon bucket lid, too cramped and will stunt growth.
I have ordered the 6" net pot bucket lid and another Black bucket and lid with PVC and bulkheads to use as a res. I decided 1 is enough in the space I have. So can you walk me thru your setup?
Is the 80gph sufficient?
