Thanks @OldSkunk! When do u trim off the smaller leaves? After u cut plant away from root ball, but before drying? Fan leaves are considered the bigger ones, I think… trying to make yes or no questions, so I am not such a pain in the rear with all my dumb beginner questions…lol
@Sixpackdad, how do u hold up plant while trimming it after u cut it away from the root ball? Tryin to think of a good way to do that… Or do u hang it upside down and trim it?
If only I had a vice attached to the kitchen table!!! lol

Here’s a pic I took tonight of my LAs that I cut down in October sitting in a heap in my garden. I don’t remove the main stem from the root ball. I just trim off the branches where reasonable. I don’t hang them or anything. Once complete, I work on breaking them down to pieces that can fit in the bags and then the manicuring.

I’ve done them by cutting off root ball from pot and putting in a bucket of water. They have stayed upright and fresh up to 2 days if u need the time. Just gives a little more breathing room. Less stress for u trying to get finished before the larger leaves start to sag. I have tried this on last few outdoor grows and have found it works quite well. I also usually trim off larger fan leaves a few days before final trimming. It makes the trimming process easier for me.

I don’t trim any leaves that are growing out of the bud. Those get trimmed when I manicure the buds and I use them to make a strong cooking oil. I’m trimming a fem now so I’ll post you a picture with my phone. The camera on this tablet is not worth a crap.

This is a bud I haven’t trimmed yet @heybudletsparty. I took all leaves that weren’t touching the buds off before hanging the plants

Say, do u put ur plants in the dark for a day or 2 or 3 right before harvest? Maybe I asked u that one already… lol

Sometimes I do if I think the plant needs it. I usually take White Widow at milky because I use it in edibles for my daytime meds. I’m really only concerned about boosting the trichomes on the stuff I grow for nighttime meds because I want 50% amber.

@OldSkunk I hear putting them in the dark also, pushes the leftover nutes back down to the roots, so the favor will not be harsh too, maybe even make them tastier?. On top of making the Trichs. go crazy… Me and @blackthumbbetty… are chatting about that right now on one of my other topics… lol Thanks Amigo!!!

Is there a reason that everyone seems to hang plants and/or buds upside down to dry? Why is that? Is it ok the dry them right side up?
Its supposed to help get everything left in the stems into the buds. The plant thinks it’s still growing even when it’s chopped down. The grow bible has a section on it. If you haven’t downloaded it, you should. It’s free. It’ll answer some of these questions quickly and you don’t have to wait for one of us to reply.

Thanks @OldSkunk!!! Um, I did download the grow bible from this site again… I think that book or whatever it is called, says some crazy things in it about drying and curing!!! It says to dry in the sun? That it should be 90 or 100 degrees…, I believe…!!! It says people buy waterproof containers, and put the wet buds in the container and put it in fish tanks and turn the heat in the fish tank up to 90 degrees, to dry the buds!!! All these things seem crazy to me!!! Most of what he wrote about drying and curing pot seems crazy to me!!! It says people do not really need to cure “sinsimea” (spelling?) buds, because they are so strong already…!!! lol I am paraphrasing all of this…, but crazy stuff eh? Has anyone else read this portion of this book called something like, Marijuana Grow Bible lately, written by Robert Bergman, from this website??? Check it out!!! @blackthumbbetty, @raustin, @Sixpackdad, @basementstealth None of this is true!!! Is it!!! lol The people that work for or on this site should edit this part of this book, and fix these things, unless I am incorrect about things!?! Even in the 1970’s I knew to dry buds or plants in a dark closet, which most did at room temperature… Between 60 and 70 degrees or so…
Anyway, I also read in a article on line somewhere that it is good to dry pot in a dark, rather cool room, in the 50 to 60 degree range??? Is this true??? Because that is the temp in the room my plants are drying in right now!!!

I do not really know what to think anymore, but that Grow Bible seems waaaaay off base to me!?! Right??? lol This is why I feel I have to ask you folks about things!!! The people that are growing good or great buds right now!!!
I don’t think I’ve ever read that part of the book. That does sound crazy, I certainly wouldn’t do it.

Thanks @raustin!!! How about drying in a dark room that is between 50 or 60 degrees Fahrenheit? is lower 50’s too cold??? The room or place should be dark? right? lol Don’t wanna get any mold or mess up at this point… Is it ok to leave the leaves on when drying? That Grow Bible says that it is better, but I do not believe any of what it says now…
If u have a little time u might wanna check out what it says in that grow bible thing!!! It says even more crazy stuff in there!!! In the version I just downloaded anyway… lol
