With a few tweaks we can get your girl looking good.
The reason she is growing so tall is that the light is too far away or not strong enough. With regards to the lights I am going to tag in some assistance @dbrn32
The more light she gets the more compact and more leaves she will put out. The leaves are turning color because of a lack of nutrients.
The bucket you are growing in. Does it have holes in it to allow for drainage?
Let me know on that soil and we can figure out how to get her turned around!
@Bman8890 the first thing you’ll need to do is to get that bulb lowered. After you get the current stretch taken care of, get that bulb lowered. I’m guessing 6” or so. But feel how much heat is coming off with the back of your hand. If you can hold your hand there comfortably, it should be good. If not, adjust accordingly.
Once you get that settled, you’re going to want to add more light for flowering that plant. The light you have is pretty much for growing small garden herbs, not large flowering plants. You can go about this several ways, but you usually get out of it what you put into it. If you plan on trying to run serious grows, you should probably get into a light more designed for what you’re trying to do. If that’s not within your budget, you can build your own lighting. Either by throwing some household stuff together, or sourcing components. But we can get to that later.
I didn’t see where you posted the size of your room? We would normally select lighting to the size of your room. But if you only intend on growing the one plant, we can find some options for that. Do you have some funds available to get suitable lighting?
Im gonna get a new light system just cant decide which route to go. The light is a led 65w 1400 lumen light. The soil i will post a pic of. I moved the light closer. The room its in is only temporary . its a 4 by 3 room until i move it back to the shed it started in. Did great in there but i have the landlord working on the shed for the next two weeks.
Bob is going to be the guy I would follow on the plant, soil, and nutrient type of stuff. I will try to help in his absence if need be. I think that stuff is pretty popular though.
As far as lights go, I can definitely help you there. What have you been looking at? Do you have a particular budget in mind? How much space in the shed, or how many plants do you plan on growing there? I’m confident we can find you something, but I don’t want to push you in a direction that you don’t want to go either. Obviously, the more information I have the more I’ll be able to help.
I plan on planting more but will only do this one for now. Idk if you have read my orignal post but i once grew a pretty decent size plant. But unfortunately I was young and stupid and when it came down to flower it i would disturb the 12 hours of darkness and after maturing and reading alot more now im sure thats the reason. I have a okayish budget. Im not gonna make something is what im saying. I personally want to keep the led light type set up. I like the not access heat. I have been on amazon and seen the 80 dollar led set-ups and what not and i have read the reviews but personnely i wanna do a three light setup if possible. Meaning blue red and one regular one. Im sure it sounds retarted but i cant decide on a set-up or a bulb that produces just the right amount of each light. All the advice yall have given me has helped alot. I did pretty good with my first one just growing a plant how i knew plants grew. Im sure if i knew what i know now she would of been beautiful @bob31@dbrn32
I’m an led guy myself. I build all my fixtures though, as you can do so for fraction of the price. The typical fixture I build though is more like a commercial type led light than the $80 panels you see on amazon. To be honest, there’s not a lot of savings in building that style of led fixture. However, the lights I build offer a lot more performance than those as well.
The ratio you’re looking for in blue to red light for a fixture that grows from seed to harvest is around 1 blue to 4 reds. I would recommend going with a white light source over that though. The white leds are technically blue, with phosphor coating to produce the other wavelengths. The right white leds will offer you a good balance of blue to red wavelengths, as well as providing some additional wavelengths that help develop plants. Plus, they offer a lot more photons watt for watt than going with traditional colored diode configurations.
The diy grow light world has come a long way over the last couple of years. You can now buy kits and that supply everything you need, you just assemble. Is that something you would potentially be interested in?
Thats exactly the approach i wanna take. I have access to lights and light strips that you wire to your car. I own a custom body shop so i do wanna go that way. I have not actually looked up kits but now im thinking with a little guidance i can build one .
If you do some google searching for diy grow lights or diy led lights, I’m sure you’ll get plenty of ideas. YouTube is a good resource too.
Why don’t you do some digging around and see if you come up with something you like. Let me know if you find something. I would say the typical led strip you’re use to working with is probably a little low on intensity. But things could’ve changed since the last time I looked too.
Thats a decent soil @Bman8890 there are several other members growing in that. The pH of the water should be at 5.8
Ingredients: Canadian Sphagnum peat moss, bark, compost, perlite or pumice or cinders, earthworm castings, dolomite lime, and controlled release fertilizer.
Be careful with that soil as it is peat moss based especially Canadian ( no offense @Donaldj) and it has time released fertilizer. So make sure you water with at least 20% running off or your peat moss will end up acidic as it breaks down. You will also run into an excess nitrogen problem in flower if you don’t water to runoff at least once a week. Don’t let the pots sit in the runoff either or it defeats the purpose. Do that and the soil will do the trick.
Should i water until i have runoff? Nm comes out the holes on bottom of the pot. Soil has done me great . lots of it for cheap. Yeah @bob31 i would love to know what you think she needs now. I cant figure it out sence it has alot in the siol already.
Actually it doesn’t have a whole lot in the soil 0.13% N 0.04% P 0.13% K
basically it is a decent starter soil but these are a hungry plant your lady is starting to get hungry. The yellowing could be result of low N or ph what @Usmcjojo is implying is true being peat moss based and yes I am Canadian it would in essence be soil/less depending on ratios of peat and non organics. Peat does degrade creating a ph change as it ages. It will work fine for growing but better with 30-40% Perolite mixed in you will want to find a good nutrient line as on it’s own it won’t provide everything your plants need as they get larger
Lol @Donaldj totally didn’t see the actual npk . Saw the time released and stopped reading lol. What we are trying to say is your girls are hungry for some food start with your basic grow formula at half strength see how the ladies respond.
@Bman8890 your soil has a 3-1-1 ratio which is not enough to sustain the plant the entire grow. The rest of the soil is organic matter. Which I’m assuming is the time released nutrients which is useless because we don’t use the soil long enough for the organic matter to be broken down. Long story short the ladies are going to get hungry long before your soil can break down.
I completely understand that when she gets bigger she will need more food. I know when she flowers she gonna need more of certain kinds then others. Im just wodering what she needs now
