@OGIncognito @oldmarine @Budz @PurpNGold74 @Spiridly @Docnraq Hey grow fam. So I think I overdried during the drying process cause I put them to cure and put those little black hygrometers from amazon in the cure. There reading around 58 humidity. I read u want them at 61 for cure. Anything at 55 or under is no good. Also there is absolutely no smell from the buds. Not really a hay smell either. Cant explain, but no dank weed smell. Strange thing is that I switched out the small black hygrometer and put in the bigger hygrometer I used in my grow tent for growing it reads the humidity at around 62 percent. So I have no idea which hygrometer is right. Did i mess up. I have no idea. I did try some and its a great high, just a little harsh and no smell or taste. Im pretty pissed. Only been curing for like 4 days. Should I continue the cure or just start using it? The drying and curing is so hard compared to the grow.
Curing longer will raise the terpins, I cure my at least 30 days before I start smoking it. The others are curing longer as I smoke the 30 day batch. Why do you think you over dried them? What was the room temp and RH and how long? Do they feel brittle? 58%-62% is my norm on the curing, Grove Bags help out a lot with maintaining that RH with no burping.
Found all my questions, sorry didnât read up the post far enough. Youâll be fine, youâre doing the right thing with the RH and opening the bag to bring that down. Had the same on my last grow, did the same thing youâre doing without taking them out of the bags. I used several bags to keep plenty of room between the buds.
@OGIncognito yeah man I thought i was doing everything right. Hopefully i did. Took about 5 days of drying. Temps were at 68 and humidity was between 57 and 60. Buds felt crispy on outside. Stems didnât snap but were reap close to snapping and since the outer part felt crispy I figured they were done. Just wondering why the 2 different hygrometers were reading significantly different levels of humidity. And theres no smell. Why no smell? Lol. They stunk when I trimmed them. I hope it comes back. 1st grow. Live n learn.
Smell is locked in behind the dryness. Will come back out in a couple weeks inside the jar. Get you some Boveda packs. After 1 week of cure toss them inside jar. Will bring the back up and maintain it for you.
I donât do the bags or the hygrometer. I dry as slow as I can, usually 7-10 days. I then pop an ounce into a quart jar. I monitor that for a week or so, burping twice a day and airing out every other day. When that has lost another 30% or so of itâs weight, it goes on the shelf. I have some from last yearâs fall harvest. Sometimes it smells nice at first, loses itâs smell and then comes back with a vengeance.
It happens.
Thatâs what matters.
@Docnraq @OGIncognito yeah im just hoping I didnât overdry on the drying process. Only time will tell
@Docnraq @OGIncognito I took the bags and put them away in my dark cool closet and will not open until a month from now. Keep my fingers crossed, lol. Still have 2 more plants from this grow still flowering, lol. Their late bloomers. Gonna try this drying process again in about a week or 2. Please share ur drying methods with me
You will want to burp your jars a couple times a day for the first week. Donât let them sit for a month without opening them if you just jarred them up.
@Docnraq I bagged them about a week ago and did burp them like twice a day. I actually took a whole bag and emptied it to a drying mesh screen I have cause it was still a bit too wet. For about 2 hrs and bagged it again. So its been a week thats why I closed it up and gonna let it sit. I may check 1 more time tomorrow
Way ahead of me! Gratz on your harvest!
Youâre learning all the little tricks of the trade. Test drive a small nug in a week or so
. Like @Docnraq said, the smell will come with curing and a smoother smoke.
Before putting the wire in the dirt Strip off The plastic Insulation and with a pair of pliers Bend back the wire to make a point. It should look like a long checkmark.Youâll be able to push it easily through the soil and should be difficult to pull back out.
