Distilling water for use in humidifiers?

Ideas needed. I will be using a humidifier this next grow but concerned about calcium and crap build up all over my tent. So those of you that use these units and the like where do you get your distilled water? At a buck and change its a bit expensive using a gal of water a day from the store so a small distiller may be a reasonable addition. Anyone using one for small grow ? Advise and suggustions grearly appreciated please?

Dehumidifier water will work, as well as RO water, if you have that.

Looking to eliminate calcium build up from the dehumidifier. I have seen small 1gal a day type to supply distilled water to put into the dehumidifier so there’s no mineral build up in machine or tent. Buying it (distilled water by the gal.) will cost about 25+ bucks a month. I can but one (small distiller) for 100.00 or less and make all i need. RODI water would be over kill for my use and needs i believe. Just trying to find a better and cheeper way to supply the water for the dehumidifier.

RO that covert mentioned is good and what I use. I have a 1 gallon humidifier and fill it about every 3 days and get 5 gallons RO for $1.50. It costs me 3.00 a month using RO water just for my humidifier but that is also the water I use to water my girls so about $10.00 a month for both.

I tried distilling it doesn’t work as well as RO. The cooling loop waste a lot more than a filter does, plus you gotta baby sit the dang thing. RO with DI would work best imo. I get 6-7 ppm from my ro with 200 ppm source water. I don’t have the DI filter but think it would drop it more

If you really want the DIY option, a low flow RO system is only a couple hundred bucks and would provide all the RO water you need. I’m about to make the upgrade myself.

I have a 5 gallon catch bucket that my 50 pint dehumidifier drains to, I fill my humidifiers with the same water and use it to mix my nutrients as well. 7.0 PH and 0 PPMs every time :love_you_gesture:

I dont want to water with it at all just for the humidifier equip and all other equip. I just see that as causing issues without at least distilled water. Trying to not overthink it.

I just buy RO water from the refill station at my local grocery store for $0.49/gal. Never have used more than 2 gal a week unless i have seedlings.
