This pretty typical for soil grow, but coco is going to require more frequent feedings in most cases. You could maybe skip day or so early when plants don’t have much of a root system, otherwise best soak pots daily around time lights come on.
Looks like autopots are back in the running! Lol
Sometimes I wish I had gone autopots over HydroLock. If I’m being honest, the HydroLock has treated me very well.
Iv’e done auto pots for a couple of grows Had 4gal of water in the carpet. Shizz Happens Auto pots are a good way to grow ya have to dial them in and maintain them. I’m thinking about going back with the next grow. The simplicity of watering in coco.
the plant takes up more water than nutrients so the EC in the root zone rises between waterings. In order to keep the root zone stable you can push out the old high EC water by watering with fresh nutrient solution until about 20 percent runoff. Many small watering events are needed to keep the root zone EC stable. Once a day is the minimum. If you have an automated top watering system set up just increase the frequency and decrease the amount. A Self draining system to manage runoff would be helpful.
Or go back to the autopots, that is what I am using
Autopots for the win!
No watering or runoff at all
They are the ultimate cheat code for growing cannabis.
They are a hydroponic system the absolute best imho
Use way less ppm with autopots then other forms.
The slit trays are the old ones, new trays have grommets.
I’ve got both and the old ones do leak but tje jew ones have never leaked on me.
Follow along my current grow and see just how little is needed with autopots.
I rarely ever have over 700ppm in my reservoir and grow some nice chunky nugs
Okay so the high ppm issues are not autopots issues because you have been top watering… Correct?
The first thing I would ask is what type of CoCo are you using? Most should be tripped washed and PH buffed, otherwise buffing it your self with the Jack’s works as long as you run enough through it.
I don’t need to do that because my coco is buffed, saves alot of hassle, however if yours isn’t then be sure to understand exactly how much Jack’s needs to be ran through each container to be considered Buffed. I can’t recall the proper procedure for this but
I believe it’s inside here
As for the ppm being lower than expected, it’s not just you it happens to me to. But I now mix a concentrate in 5 gallons and then add it to my reservoir, followed by adding more water only until the ppn is right, then I will PH it once more wait a while come back and dohble check it hours later or the next morning.
Otherwise it’s just about tuning in your fine detail, one of those details can be nutrient ppm and ratios during flower.
I haven’t had a ton of perfect grows and also experienced the issues your speaking of however it’s just a matter of dialing in the grow and that includes nutrient cycles and ppm’s.
I notice this when growing multiple different plants in the same environment off the same reservoir, some would show signs of calcium issues and I couldn’t figure it out before the damage had been already done. Yet other plants in the same conditions are fine.
From what I have researched and heard from experts is that calcium is rarely deficient, instead we have lockout issues due to another factor. However it’s easy to boost the calcium, it’s just that if plants aren’t checked everyday in WHITE light then it can be easily missed until its to late and damage is non reversable in flower. So we often have these little issues, then adjust, get to harvest just fine but leaf damage was done. Not a huge deal but ideally something that should be minamized
As @Graysin said we all get lazy and it costs us…
I spilled 25gallons of full Jack’s with a large dose of fishshit on my carpet. It took me multiple years but eventually I got lazy and messed up, a water alarm Is something I may get just as a backup safety device.
I was diligent for long enough and learned alot by myself to see how well these autopots can work even on the old system.
That’s why I have promoted them so heavily here, it seems to have paid off though I see alot more autopots users now then when I started and people are generally loving them. It just goes to show us all we have the same fears but know they are mitigated as long as we do some basic things and stick with it.
Yes you are correct the last 2 grows have been to water and not using autopots. I use canna coco. @imSICKkid told me about it years ago and have never needed to rinse and buffer, but may still be needed.
@dbrn32 i have that same screenshot I refer to lol thanks for posting it. As you never know when it will be needed.
Yeah canna is good.
So it must be something else going on, I would suggest sticking with the autopots and just solving the issues one by one
For me this is completely normal. I am at 2300 ppm coming out now. I have tried flushing it down before. And found there is really no need for it. Autopots do make things easier. But I always do a little better if I can top feed. I just made a set up to make feeding easier. Top feeding. My plant stands make getting the run off easy. I use the tribus as well. I mix 11 gallons at a time. 1.6g of Epsom, 3.6 of A, 2.4 of B and 15ml of GH armour SI. 6ml of PH up and I am at about 6…1 for my ph. It will drop over time. But I don’t have to worry about the ph for about 3 days. I just add 2 ml of up and it brings me back up. I mix in the rez even when I top feed.
After week 3. You should be feeding to run off every day. Letting them dry out like that will not make the plants happy. You can do that is early veg to help get the roots to expand. I look for 4 cups of run off each feeding. It keeps me issue free.
