Ok, I was told to let the soil dry a bit to kill them. Apparently they live in wet soil. Im gonna try to touch the bottom to see if its dry. I’m sure they are thirsty. It’s been a while since watered them. The top just feels moist. Apparently that’s one of the fungus gmat symptoms. They keep the top moist somehow? I’m already mourning my plant at this point…

@Willk,

Im not at my computer but cut up a potatoe and place on the soil around the plant they love that once full replace and chuck out the other one. Ill be back on in a bit

Plants need water! You dont want to kill the plant to get rid of the gnats. For that matter fungus gnats are more of a nuisance than a huge threat. Feed thenplant as you normally would but put a layer of sand on the soil, diatomaceous earth works good too. Get some predatory insects like ladybird beetles and carry on camping. The potato thing sounds interesting? May try that in the future.

Yea I have been panicking, The leaves are lifeless at this point… :flushed:
I usually watered when the top is dry. Now I can’t tell if it’s time to water. I know it’s not her usual schedule. She needed water 2 days ago at least. But the top is moist so I waited out. I’m gonna water now then do the potato thing. I heard about that before it works.

@Willk,
can u post a couple of pic s please

I did a bunch
In the replies.

Its in between the replies. I forgot to put them in my post and for some reason it wont let me edit

From the side its easier to see. The leaves are hanging on the side

I am really sorry my friend, but don’t give up the ship until you have to smin …. lol

Here ya go my friend
Fungus Gnats

Fungus gnats like to feed on roots of the plants and organic matter. Adults
and larvae live in moist, shady areas. The adults lay there eggs on top of
the soil, near the base of the stem and takes about 4 days to hatch. The
larvae will start by eating the root hairs of the plant then working their
way up the plant, Fungus gnats like to eat organic matter so they will be
stealing away nutrients from your plants, so its best to get rid of them
completely. [color=red. Plants growing in rock wool are more prone to getting
a more severe infestation than plants growing in soil. If your plants are
affected during late flowering or close to harvest, please try to use the
safest means of control to be safe to your health.

Prevent and Control

Prevent indoor entry of gnats by making sure there is no open windows open
without screens on. Aug is a bad time for them as they are worst that time
of the year.

Put sticky traps on the soil surface to trap the gnats

Put potato slices on the surface of the soil. The larvae like it and will
be drawn to it… After about 4 to 5 days, remove the potato slices with the
larvae. To get rid of them you can do a lot of things like either use a NO
pest strip, neem oil or putting sand on the surface of the soil will suffocate
the eggs and get rid of them as well. Tobacco juice kills them, and works well
for re-occurrences!

They can be in or on the soil and can fly. In order to get rid of them you
can use neem oil, sand or perlite on the surface again kills them, and no pest
strips catch the ones that fly. A chemical product called Zone works very well
and is very powerful and works well in Hydroponics/Aeroponics!
Other Products which can be used in Hydroponics/Aeroponics and soil are:

Safer Yard & Garden Insecticide

GNATROL( used in Hydroponics/Aeroponics in the water as well as soil),
Safer Sticky Stakes,
TR-11000 Pyrethrum.
PERMETHRIN dust
Mosquito Dunks

Organic Control

Natrasoap
Pest Oil
Neem Oil
Hot Pepper Wax
Doc’s Neem Pest Soap
Sticky traps
Safer’s Insecticidal Soap
Neem Oil

@garrigan62
Thank you for the info.
I’m gonna try everything but I have never seen the plant this lifeless.
Some say neem oil causes build up in your buds and your lungs and might turn into that symptom where you get nausea and vomiting in the morning. Do you have any experience with neem oil?
You didn’t mention DE, any experience with that?

Top is moist, fungus gnats do that. It’s been 5 days I think they are thirsty. It’s dying pretty much. I’m gonna water any way and see what happens.

Man Id be putting an inch of fine silica sand on that stat! Then id buy some yellow sticky traps and Viet Kong the crap out of that whole area! Try that potato thing too! The sand makes a great barrier because it works both ways. Since the plant is actively making what you plan to inhale, I personally would not use neem oil.

BTi powder from eBay or mosquito bits. Cheap, easy, effective.

Agreed, I’m gonna try all that. I’ll keep you updated. I hope it hangs in there.
