@Indacut I have two bags of FFHF left to burn through.
For the most part I have just been just using build a soil products and tutorials to get things rolling. Since I’m really just digging in to organic soil over the last 6 months or so I don’t have a mix of my own yet. I still have a couple months before I have to decide on an exact recipe.
heres a video with some basic info though if your interested.
That was a good vid! Thank you. He hit on some of the questions I had. Also it ironic timing, someone just told me yesterday that a good source of life would be to in short get a scope of dirt from outside. Allow it to do its thing within your soil. And here he has living worms in his soil.
Oh ya worms are great the benefits are just too numerous to list. I’ve also seen many reputable soil scientists talk about using a few tbsp of forest soil as an inoculation.
Aside from this I have the urge to try a lil experiment. I really feel like they can grow in a aroid mix. It very similar to that of coco grows really, in that the medium holds no real nutrients so it all has to be added in. Like i mentioned before I use it all the time and its flexible you add or take away whichever part. One of these days I’m going to do it so I can prove to myself if it was the worse idea or not
I say go for it. It would probably work just fine with some trial and error.
I just used tilth for the first time and I wish they’d put the npk on the bag so you know what your starting with I’ve also thought about calling them
Would definitely be helpful. I bought 2 bags and only used one so I have a fresh bag for the next go around. I have thought about calling up there too. The guy there named Josh gave me some good info when I was there. Their plants looked good and thriving, so just have to figure out how to work with it. Its nice having someone here who knows what I’m talking about lol.
it’s the butter of soil swear … I thought about adding some perlite but IDK yet I might call them tomorrow to ask hopefully I get an answer I’m about an hour away from there so… lucky I have a tilth dealer lol
I love their house soil. With that tho I found it was best to leave as is. Every time I added something for more aeration it had a opposite effect. Have you started using nutes with the soil, if so what are you using? My thoughts for the next go round is to use a top dressing and not apply till atleast 4 weeks after initial potting. My whole thing with it is, being that its super charged how long does that last. Ppl on here that use a charged up soil I see usually wait till about that 4week period before adding nutes, that’s what I’m basing that off. Will probably reach out when I get going to find out some specifics from them, that I didnt think to ask before.
I just potted my plant in the soil a week ago… I’m pretty much where your at with adding a top dressing but I also havent figured out what brand or go too yet
Gotcha. I’m going the @Roadsideorganics.ok route. There’s plenty tho as I’m sure you know. I like the simplicity with this one. You dont have to add a bunch of other things to it once you start using it. Plus it’s organic and we’re using organic soil so I wanna keep it the same. Your using the bloom rt?
I didnt know they sold auto seeds too. I just found out it’s on their site.
I’ve been digging the roadside organics. Or rather not digging haha no till jokes. I’m just finishing up the first plant with it and a few more a few weeks behind. Considering I just stuck her in the ground with some FFOF and gave her no love other than one foliar to correct Mn def(Didn’t help much cuz of the poor soil and water conditions absolutely nothing to do with the top dress). I am actually pleasantly surprised with the way she is ripening up in spite of the def. The Highway Dust did a great job in spite very poor soil(very alkaline very saline silt clay, mostly clay) and water(same story PH of about 9 from all the calcium). Excited to see what happens next summer after some work on my field soil.
Plus F#*K amazon I love giving my money to little guys that give a damn about their customer and product.
Even with the def going on, she still was thriving so you really held her together still. I have some areas of clay dirt in my yard too. Only the strong plants can survive it, its horrid really.
100% they keep pissing me off. I have a local store that I need to start going to more often. Plus with the smaller shops the ppl are usually way more helpful and actually know what their talking about.
I can’t wait to try it. Let me ask you this, I know you do a cover crop. What do you think about adding compost? Would that be too much or throw off the ph levels? Or since its just a light covering on top it may not negatively effect it?
Compost is more for the microbes than the minerals, but yes you will use it with your top dress. I do 1 part EWC to 1 part ammendment mix them then work into the top layer of soil. That’s the beauty of organics once you a strong micro heard they will keep the ph perfect at all times because the plant gives off exudates that stimulate the particular microbe that’s needed to correct any imbalance. Additionally it can call for microbes that will infect the particular pest attacking the plant and soooooo much more. Nature is way better at growing nature than any of us silly humans.
Perfect, I’m going to make my way to get some compost.
I’m using the bloom I did ask on the wensite if they could tell me the npk of tilth soil
I popped a seed in so I did give them a call today. He said in a 5gal pot, when its a quarter or 2/3 of the way start to feed unless its showing it needs it before then. He suggests starting low and increasing up to the recommended dosage of whichever nutes you use. Which roughly what we were thinking anyway. If you use 7.5 gal or larger he says you can go just water. That I dont understand at all but I’m not using it so I didnt ask further on that.
Water only work just fine, but you have to keep the plant’s small and quick. There are a number of growers on here that do it with autos and SIPs for the ultimate low maintenance grow.
Keep in mind the manufacturer is going to give you answers based on an instantly available synthetic nutes. If your using the Highway Dust you need to factor in lead time for the amendment to be broken down. That takes about 2 weeks if your microbes are good and healthy. Plus because it’s not instantly available over feeding is much less likely. Again Keep the microbes happy and they will do most of the work of balancing the soil they live in.
